Asus rampage III Extreme

It's a vile looking board. Just my opinion ofcourse. But if it clocks better than the R2E I might be interested. :D

RoEy

This looks like a new addition to my build sheet.
I dont think i can afford to go SLI with these 480's will the board be overkill for a single GPU?

Box contents are about half way down the pictures. Pricing and availability are as yet, still unknown I'm afraid - Early April from what I've heard :/

A little disappointing tbh, looking at the package contents there doesn't seem to be anything 'extra' you would expect from a board like this. So far ASUS have cut not only the sound card, but also the LCD display. I wouldn't mind if this meant a cheaper price tag but we all know it will cost even more than the Rampage 2, which IMO is wrong, as they have actually cut down the features rather than improved. The "improvements" are expected with the times (USB 3/SATA 3 ect), the price shouldn't be higher, it certainly won't cost more to manufacture anyway...

I just hope it turns out to be a really solid board which is well made and overclocks well whilst maintaining stability.

Interesting you say that, as a lot of money has been put into the R&D of the board itself, to make sure it's *the* best overclocking board possible.

It might be branded as Republic of Gamers, but really, this is the "Republic of Overclockers" board and is designed as a world record breaking LN2 monster. No features have been cut down....especially if you put it side by side with the R2E.

As for costs, it'll definitely cost more to make than the Rampage II - Digital phases, crystal design heatsinks and the switching is all different...

I am too dissapointed with the supplied "Goodies" for the price tag this monster will carry i would expect it to be sent out with some toys to make it stand out a little more.

I only hope what you say is true and it is built with quality :) I don't mind a lack of "gadgets" as long as it overclocks well and is a decent, stable and long lasting board.

:)

It's not the toys that make the board, it's the hardware and the performance itself that distinguishes it.

Im expecting to receive one during next week - Piccies to follow :D

Good. Freebie soundcards and lcd displays can go whistle, I don't want semi-useless tat with a motherboard. I want one which overclocks brilliantly and doesn't kill itself under stress. You've caught my interest with this one VK, cheers for the post.

True, however I like motherboards to have a sound card bundled with them, you know why? So I can get rid of it and replace it with my X-Fi sound card and have no other built in sound chips in sight! :p Otherwise, you just have a on-board sound system that sits there doing nothing, using BIOS resources and sticking out your I/O plate for no reason at all :(.
.
As for the LCD display I just thought it was a nifty little gadget... "Every little helps!".

If what I heard is true, the sound is completely disable-able (Is that even a word?!) on the R3E to free up resources.

Dont quote me on that, I dont know if that made it into the final version :)

Yeah I know you can disable on-board sound (did it with my mobo). It's just the fact that an on-board sound chip as well as a 6 port audio jack will sit there fat dumb and happy not actually being used ;).

am in same position sold my I5 750 rig and am waiting for the R3E and the I7 980x to come in stock! Word is its coming out the same time has 980x launch which should be in the next 2weeks!

Well feel free on spending £1300+ on just a motherboard and processor :)

I think I might wait for this motherboard nwo it looks much better than the current Asus 6.0gb/s motherboard and hopefully doesnt have the problem with the new i7 930 (with the pre installed bios).

Problem? What problem is that?

Apparently the issue with the i7 930 from not booting is fixed in the latest bios. But if you have the older bios than you can't boot up your pc to update the bios unless you have the older i7 versions 920 etc...

I have an i7 920 but it's in my pre built machine and it would void the warranty to use it to update the bios.

So I will wait for this new board because it looks better and shouldn't have this problem.

I to welcome cutting of the marketing waffle bits for focusing on a better board.

That said, OMG they have actualy inculded the temp probes this time! ;)

Now I really wish Asus would improve thier fan management to actualy be of some use. Abit were best in this regard but its still a ways of the likes of a t-balancer. You would think with that many fan headers they would have looked at this. :(

Infact, just strip the rubbish onboard audio compleatly and use the space/money to give me the fan control and a few more bits on the back panel. Anyone getting this board is either benching and wont use the audio at all, or a power user who likely has enough fans to use the PC as a hovercraft and thier own soundcard (maybe even a xonar?).

Just a personal gripe -VK-. If you could plant the idea in your engineers and marketings heads for the RIVE it would be most appreciated. Infact, RIVE looks like a cool acronym kind of like the TRUE. Get that out the door asap please. :p

I`m definitely considering getting myself one of these Motherboards when building my new Core i7-980X computer soon, especially if the boards performance is as good as and also has as good overclocking compatibilities similar to the EVGA Classified.

Are you aware that the 980 is going to cost around 800 quid?

Hi

I take it this Motherboards back ports, especially the Expansion Slots should all be fully usable in a Coolermaster RC-1100 Cosmos S Case???

Thanks so much for responding.
