ASUS EAH 5850 TOP DirectCU - Review Link should cost about £10 more than the stock reference version & is quiet when overclocked according to the review.

Looks like a good card, closing the gap even more within 9% of a 5870 with great overclockability from that cooler. Lets hope the price is right :)

I wouldn't be surprised if stocks increase a bit more than normal soon as all the big boys seem to be getting ready new better cooled versions, and higher overclock versions of each card, so thats say MSI with a new better cooler and a new better cooler + big overclock and custom PCB. Two new models, Asus already have an overclock one so maybe only one new version, maybe two though, and they are all readying 2 new versions of the 5870 and a new version (or 2, 2gb/4gb) of the 5970.

Meaning they are probably selling a few less normal ones so they have a release supply of the new ones very soon.

I wouldn't be surprised again at all if 26th March hits, Nvidia launchs a half dozen cards in every store and no more and almost every AMD brand has a ok supply of 5850/5870/5970's all with improved cooling and clocks for a very small price hike.

It seems to me maybe the 5850 supplys have been slightly down in the last few weeks as there have been more "whens stock coming in" threads.

The knock on effect could be if better cooling version are only £10 more, the current basic models will probably drop in price to clear them out a bit as no one in their right mind would save £10 when they can get a quieter and better overclocking version for so little extra. The simple fact that quite a lot of stock will be released aswell should bring prices down also.

I think 5850 have been low in stock as ati have a good guage of fermi now and the 5870 is the winning the fps/£ before the battles begun and still most have already opted for the 5850/70. Seeing more 5850 variants is great as they really are the best 58xx series option only time will tell if nvidia can price competitively,

that looks like the 5830

When comparing this card to the ASUS EAH 5830 DirectCU that we reviewed recently, the only difference is the GPU core and the red stripes on the cooler.

The PCB design and component selection is 100% identical. Of course both cards have a different BIOS with different clock, voltage and fan settings, but otherwise the cards are the same.

Looks nothing like a lot of the 5830's that i have seen that look like gen2 5770's, if anything its more like a sapphire 5850/70vapor-x. It is probably the same cooler as the asus 5830 and appears to do a very good job. Asus are making some good 5xxx series cards with warranties to boot :)
