I have v-sync on most of my games so +75 fps is my limit.

Would there be anypoint in upgrading my card? will i see any preformance rise?

if not what other upgrade do you suggest? no point of a sound card i use a usb headset and disabled onboard audio

IMO i think your cpu would bottleneck a 5970 and if u v sync at 75 FPS there is really not point.

Have u considered what u would spend on a 5970 u could buy a i5 or top end amd system

What size of monitor do you use and at what resoultion?

I'd be surprised if the improvement was worth the cost...but then it depends on how much you value 500 quid and can only be a personal judgement.

If your games run fine now, personally I'd hold off on a graphics card till you need it.

i use a 23 inch samsung hd 2333 monitor 1680x1050 res i have everything on max.

The only places i dont see max frame rate are age of conan, mw2 and crysis.

if i dont buy a 5970 idk what else to get, i will be upgrading to a ssd and windows 7 also i will add 4gb more of ram when i convert to a 64bit system.

right now i have no clue what to get

You say my cpu would bottle neck my games, what would you suggest i get instead?

oh i own a logitecg g13-g19-g25-g35
razer lachisis mouse and razer goliath mousepad

To get full benefit from 5970 you would really need faster CPU and mobo to i7 standard, and there's no much point also since you game at 1680 x 1050, 5970 is beast that shines at high resolutions, preferably eyefinity.
5000 series cards will give you DX11. If you want to upgrade only card and stop at that go for 5870, if you want to get card now and upgrade to i7 later go for 5970.

Your peripherals (g13 g19.....) are irrelevant to performance discussion.

Not need to go as far as 5970...even a 5870 could be bottlenecked by CPUs that are faster than yours...see the example below:

HD5870, 4GB Corsair 800Mhz DDR2, 4GB Corsair 1,600Mhz DDR3
Crysis (DirectX 10, 64-Bit, High) at 1,680x1,050

[email protected] (stock speed)=12-35fps
Q6600 [email protected]=24-45fps
[email protected] (stock speed)=19-36fps
E8400 [email protected]=27-48fps
Phenom II X4 965 BE (C3 stepping) @3.4Ghz (stock speed)=23-46fps
Phenom II X4 965 BE (C3 stepping) [email protected] =29-52fps
Core i5 [email protected] (stock speed)=20-50fps
Core i5 750 [email protected]

(source: Custom PC Issue 078 March 2010, p41)

I say upgrade to i5 750 (cost around £365 excluding shipping):

and grab a 5850 (around £200).

Sell your old stuffs and get around £100-£150 back.

i mentioned my peripherals incase some one tells me to buy a new headset / mouse, i only put that there to say i have all the stuff outside the pc that i would want.

I really dont like intel, i allways go for amd, so much easier to install then the intel push pins.

Spend some money on a 3rd party cooler then, you'll get better temps, quieter operation, and a better installation method, as I agree, push-pins are horrid!

I did not point it out for a bad reason m8, i should have said that peripherals will not affect your performance at all, its matter of personal preference which controllers you like :)

Its not complicated at all to put together intel systems, easy process, no tools required if you are going with stock cooler, most of aftermarket coolers are also walk in the park to bolt on, dont let that stop you getting best performance configuration. I am not saying AMD offerings are bad, its just that intel has an edge.

im have a ocz vendeta 2 copper base, 120mm fan and using mx-2 cooling

instead of a graphics card a 5970 would you think converting from a 200gb 8mb cashe hard drive to a 100gb near 280mb read and write speed ssd give me better preformance?

my 1tb hard drive failed this week =/

Waste of money - no need to upgrade at all, no.

Save your money, wait until games are created that ur GPU cannot give you 75fps then consider upgrading.

If you buy it now when you don't need it (yes you will get higher FPS but above 75 I don't think you can feel the difference whilst playing) by the time you would have NEEDED to upgrade ur gpu the 5970 will have halved in price at least.

With regards to going from HDD to SSD yes you would notice a difference depending on what you do.

Are you for real though, your SSD question is like asking: "If I go from a Ford Fiesta to an Aston Martin DBS - would I notice a difference?"

Guys,

On the same topic, my specs below

MSI 790FXGD70 maybe upgrade to 890FXGD70
AMD Phenom2 965 @ 4.0Ghz v1.42
8Gb OCZ Platinum PC3-16000 rated 2000Mhz running at Dual Channel 1600Mhz 1T 9-11-11-24
X-Fi Titianium Pro 64mb X-Ram PCi-E
His Radeon 4870x2
Toshiba 37" HDTV 1920*1080p

Now im tempting to get a 5970, would this be a good upgrade or should i wait for the femi 480, i know a lot of people are having problems with there 5970 not maxing it out.

What to do ?

Thanks all

A 5970 would be overkill for 1920x1080. A 5850/5870 would enough to max out at games with 4xAA in dx 11 mode.

But I think you should hold off buying till the end of the month and wait for legitimate info, pricing and review of Nvidia's cards. It might turn out better/worse than what everyone's making it out to be, but it should hopefully have some impact on the pricing of the ATI cards too.

I know what you mean, i cant believe the price of the 5970 even the 5870 is tad expensive but priced alittle better the 5970.

I just hope the femi is good, i onced owned a NV card and it was brilliant. I suppose your right got to be patient i told myself this time round dont rush in buy the 5970 waisting all that money, i do have to admit the 4870x2 is a excellent card, i cannot fault it, i know people say the card runs hot, but if you manually adjust fan speed to 80% like i did, the card stays cool.

Cant wait !
