I tried searching but found nothing on this

My case is the stock case, not very big, it holds my 9400gt with plenty of space to spare but my friend is selling a XFX 9800GTX Black Edition (10.5inches long and 1.5inches deep) for £80 so i thought bargain haha im worried it wont fit in my case though, itll either be the snuggest fit ever or its going to touch my hard drive ports on the motherboard and the system fan port. It may touch the metal part of the case where the hard drive bays are aswell.

Anything i can do to work around this or will i have to buy a new case all together?

Well, unless there's anything sticking out of the motherboard that's going to physically prevent it from going in (that power connector looks a bit close, might be the perspective though), you might be ok. Can always shift the hard drive up or down to buy yourself some more room..
 
It should fit but you may have to move your hard drives to different bays. The power connectors arent on the end of the 9800GTX they are on the edge facing the sidepanel.

And i dont think £80 is a bargian tbh ;)

Assume your cables are long enough, you can just move your HDD to lower bay, so it would not be on the same level as the graphic card.

Sidenote: I don't think the 9800GTX BE worth paying £80. Not saying you friend is ripping you off or anything as I have no doubt that he paid a lot when he first got it.

But for £80, you can most likely get a 2nd hand HD4870 1GB will perform quite a bit better than 9800GTX.

Sure 9800GTX overclocked to 760MHz and Memory clock to 2.28MHz is a huge overclock for a manufacturer overclock, but majority of the 9800GTX+ are easily overclockable to 800MHz/2400MHz using tools such as MSI Afterburner. Also when 9800GTX refreshed to 9800GTX+, it has move to 55nm thus has lower power consumption, and only require one PCI-E 6 pin connector instead of two like the 9800GTX.
 
im only 15 so i dont have a job and dont have that much money, i had to borrow the money to afford this card from my friend (still not bought it yet) so 80 is about the max i can afford :(
 
Let me put it this way...

I myself is a owner a XFX 9800GTX+ 512MB. If I am to sell my card now, I think I would quite be lucky to even get over £60 for it.

If you are not comfortable with 2nd hand cards from strangers, just get a new HD5750 512MB at £89:

It's performance is on almost same level as 9800GTX+/HD4850 512MB (in fact HD5750 should be a bit faster). But because it is 40nm, it consume even less power thus run much cooler. Also it support dx 11 (might not be powerful enough to run graphic intensive games in dx 11 mode, but it still a support nonetheless). And most importantly, you get 2 years warranty.

The 9800GTX BE is just a 9800GTX with manufacturer overclock, and it's probably the fastest 9800GTX out of the box there is, however it is still on the old 65nm process. The 9800GTX+ however is a refresh and moved from 65nm to 55nm, making it running cooler and better overclockability than the old 9800GTX models. You would have a much better chance of being able to overclock the core speed to 800MHz on a GTX+ than an old GTX, since 800MHz is said almost to be the absolute max overclock for the GTX, while majority of the GTX+ owners can overclock to 800MHz or above with little effort.

With that said, the HD5750 is still the best deal at under £90. The warranty of your friend's 9800GTX BE might have expired already, whereas if you get a new card, you would get 2 years warranty, which means if your card break down within 2 years after purchase, you can RMA your card to the seller/manufacturer for a replacement (so long as you have prove of purchase like a receipt or something).

Hmmm, my friends still got warrantyy and receipt etc. for 2 more years.

i would get a 9800gtx and oc it but tbh im not too keen on overclocking myself, i know something would go wrong :S

Yea...but if his friend willing to deal with rma for him if the card goes wrong, then it should be ok.

But I still think paying £80 for a 2nd hand 9800GTX isn't worth it. If I have to choose between a new 9800GTX 512MB and a new HD5750 512MB and both priced at £90, I'd go for the HD5750.
