anti theft plates

How are they (police) going to know you (the thief) bought the plates of ebay, and where you bought them from?

You may have to log when you made the plates and who for etc.
Like for the DVLA or something, I can't see it completely legal to make numberplates unless someone has a log of whats being made.
But I may be wrong.

I wasn't asked for any details other than whatever info PayPal gives the seller, and I didn't even have the plates delivered to the PP address due to there being no-one there to collect them.

You wouldn't make a very good criminal. It would be very easy to trace back the transaction and owner of the PP account. Unless the PP account was stolen of course...

Whilst number plate related crime may not involve plates getting stolen, the ones that ARE stolen are very likely to be used in crime

Mine don't say anything other than my reg number on them, and have all the correct BS AU stamps etc

Anyone on ebay can see your e-bay username, location, and the items you have bought and sold. You don't have to be Colombo to find out this info... :p

No, but the police have no way of knowing where my vehicle plates were bought from - as that info is not logged anywhere, hell you can buy a plate making kit probably.

You can get them made from a million places no questions asked. christ, chuck a monkey at a car garage 20 quid and you can get a dealer set made no problem.

They wont steal them from cars and use them because the owner will probably inform the police. most likely they will steal a car, find one that is the same as the stolen one and clone the plates.

I'm not talking about the location of the seller, but the buyer.

Take this example, a car is rolling around Essex on false plates, the police to a search on ebay for users within 10 miles of Essex who have recently purchased reg plates, and if they get any hits then they would ask ebay for the address of the buyer and pay them a visit (if the address was supplied that is...).

Take a look at your own feedback, you (and anyone else) can see that you have recently bought plates. ;)
