thinking of moving to Cornwall next year (just have a caravan on a seasonal pitch down there at the moment) but if i give up my job in yorkshire first then look for a job when ive moved down there will i get jobseekers as ive given the job up?

I don't think you will get anything if you voluntarily leave a job. Although if your moving to a new area it could be different but don't quote me on that :p

You do get it if you voluntarily left your job, you just have to fill in a form saying why.

Not sure on a time frame though.

You can claim at any time. However you will need to complete a form saying why you left your job. A few weeks later once that has been processed either they will accept your reason and nothing will happen or your benefit will be suspended. But if the processing is as slow in Cornwall as it is in London, it may take a while for them to get around to suspending you ;)

13 weeks before you can claim JSA after leaving a job (voluntarily). They will tell from your forms, as you have to state the reason for leaving, there will be no payment for 13 weeks.

I cant wait to summer when i go back on JSA until winter then find another job. Great idea if you can offord it, ive been doing it for four years, its very nice having the summer for fun and winter for work.
My dad has the same idea he goes to prison for petty theft in the winter and is out in the summer, he saves loads on heating.

My boyfriend works for dwp and he has advised me that if you give up work without a valid reason you may be sanctioned for up to six months :(

Thats got to be a load of rubbish, so you pay into the system leave your job through stress/bullying and cant claim while 100s of thousands of people that have NEVER EVER worked get benefits....this country.

Isnt the whole point of JSA is they help you look for work.

Ive worked for a long time but i dont blame you for this view, having a rubbish job can be soul destroying and as far as we know we have just one life, im looking to just work part time and spend my days on the beach surfing , we have paid the mortgage off(edit ,well nearly), took us 10 years in total even though our family income is <20k so the next house will be cash

If you leave the job due to stress or bullying, your reason will most likely be accepted. The system is in place to stop people who are simply bored of their job using JSA to support themselves while they find something more interesting

Ahh, if you leave through Stress/Bullying (a friend left due to this), the JCP don't even check IIRC, and no 13 week sanction ;) ;)
