Ninja Gaiden II

OMG!!! I have been meaning to play one of the Ninja Gaiden games for a while but never got round to it. Had a go on NG2 last night - its quite simply amazing and very hard!!!

Cant believe I still havent got round to playing this yet! lol one of my most anticipated games as well and Im quite a big Gaiden fan! Whats the average price now? Is £15 second hand any good? As someone on AV forums is selling a copy!

Funnily enough, what made it even better was the price. My friend managed to get it for £2.50 (think he had some points)

Think its between £20-30 in most shops now so £15 aint bad

i'm going through the game again, this time with only the dragon sword and this was something i could never figure out from the first time, at level 4, it gains the "cloud dragon flying swallow" and from what i can make out, the input is:

X, hold Y, Y, Y, Y

i dont think i've ever got this to work, when should i be pressing the YYY as the X-->hold Y seems to be a slash followed by a upward slash presumably to launch bad guys into the air, but he doesnt seem to jump with them, and the flying swallow is normally an air move, right?

That combo is a little difficult to get at first but the different between hold Y and not holding it is massive. Without a hold you jump into the air with the slash for some other combos, but you hold down Y untill you see *** animation for the upwards slash take place, after that it's just a case of mashing y lots. The combo still works even if there's no enemys about so you can practice in safety. It works well on some of the larger enemies which cant be attacked with the izuna drop.

i got it now, as you say with the hold Y its a launcher, i expected the next Y to be some sort of jump up and not a spinning slash which is pretty much on the ground and rather slow and get constantly hit out of the combo after the hold Y.

the next NG needs what soul calibur 4 does and what NG2 does for the ninpo, have a video demo of the move in action so people know what they're trying to do.

tbh half of the time i stick to moves i know instead of trying out new ones for this reason.

oh i cant believe how buggy and randomly unreliable this game is, with the update i cant go through the big door on ch14, without it, i cant get into dagra dai's room.

the disc stops spinning after the cutscene halfway through the tunnel, game keeps going but when i reach his door, music keeps on playing and says now loading for ages.

all i want is the freaking dragon sword master achievement, at this rate, once i've done this, i'm not going to bother with the rest.

Just a heads up, there has been a new patch released for this game which finally fixes the cutscenes which crash all the time. I havent been able to test this yet as i'm still way back on chapter5 and don't have any closer saves

Has taken far too long for such a big bug to go unfixed.

Just finished this game, absolutely amazing and so much fun.

As someone else said, this is one of the best games I have played for ages on a console, the game starts of as a fairly standard hack and slash but there is so much too it.

It's so satisfying fighting 50 enemies at once and taking them all out.

For the 17.99 I paid for this it's the biggest bargain in a long time.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel Ninja Gaiden 2 is really poor compared to Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the PS3?

I rinsed Sigma on all difficulties (including Master Ninja) on the PS3 as I loved it so much, but for some reason I cannot get into Gaiden 2?

I've only got up to the end of New York, and I really don't enjoy it. The levels so far are really dull, Ryu has been sped up too much that it's a bit ridiculous, and it doesn't look nearly as nice as Sigma either.

Maybe it gets better further in, but Sigma kicks it's ass so far.

I didnt like it at all, traded it in last night for Viva Pinata. Everything was the same but with a different skin and so for the first 5 levels it was ok but then it went downhill quickly.

Then again I didnt like the DMC series either.

Sorry for major thread bump :)
Just want to know if there are any penalties each time you die? Eg. You lose currency or karma etc?

To my knowledge i don't think there is, and i died a lot, i mean a stupid amount of time, i left the cinema option on by accident and had over 900deaths by the time of halfway through my mentor playthrough, and i'm so far stuck in ch11 on master ninja so that number could be closer to 1500 now.

In short i don't think there's a death penalty. PS3 version could have changed that though.

The first ninja gaiden (try black if on xbox/360 or sigma if on PS3) is amazing, probably one of the best games ever due to having great level design, very good mechanics, tons of weapons and if playing ninja gaiden black all the extra missions. Ninja gaiden 2 at least kept the great mechanics even if it did not do it as well but the level design was much more linear rather than the intertwining way every area connected in Ninja gaiden. The second one is at least a good game thanks to be way better core mechanics than any other action game I've played, or at least more fluid.

NG2 is comparing well to NG1 for me. Though I have to say some of the level design is really poor (eg. you can see or can tell that theres a treasure a distance away in another direction from the path you need to go, so you have to go all the way there and then all the way back. Kinda spoils the pace a bit).

Also bosses are quite annoying - theres not enough visual feedback on if what you're doing will work and if its the most efficient means of disposal. If I'm doing the best attack possible against the particular boss then I'd like to see gushes of blood or sparks come flying out.

It should compare well in everything but level design, gameplay is largely the same with some minor differences (special attacks more powerful and health regenerates to certain points). All in all it's a great game and I've had all the Ninja gaides (ninja gaiden, ninja gaiden black, ninja gaiden sigma, ninja gaiden 2 and ninja gaiden sigma 2 collectors edition :D) and I think other than level design it's great. Combat was more fun and faster.

I hope they make a ninja gaiden 2 black, not as likely though considering sigma 2 has online co-op and missions already so they couldn't have much more to add.
