Hai guys = )

Just writing a section for my dissertation about the use of narrated voiceovers at the start of films which set the scene and introduce the characters to inform the audience of what they need to know in order for the narrative to make sense. (In comparison to Haneke's use of the voiceover in White Ribbon which it is just a point of view and remains ambiguous, in which there is no explanation)

If any of you could give some examples of this it would be great! My first thought was Fight Club but I've decided not to use it as an example :)

Any suggestions?

I think 500 Days of summer starts with a short narrative.

Perfect example!

'The boy, Tom Hansen of Morgate New Jersey, grew up believing that he'd never truly be happy, until the day he met the one...the girl Summer Finn of Michigan did not share this belief, since the disintigration of her parents marriage...Tom meets Summer on January 8th, he knows almost immediately she is who he has been searching for, this is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know up front, this is not a love story'

:)

Cheers guys! I need no more suggestions

Does it have to be film?

Just wondering as the narrative voiceover in Band of Brothers is quite exceptional. I particularly love the final episode where the voiceover goes through each of the soldiers and what happened to them after the war
