NHS Hospital Experience, Glenfields.

I had to go to the hospital today for a Treadmill test, An ECG some Blood tests & other bits & Bobs, The Hospital was Glenfields Hospital Leicester.
My appointment was at 9am so I left real early just in case I caught the rush hour traffic, I didn't catch No traffic at all & got there at 8am. Typical.
Parking was Superb but a Pound an hour, Yes a ******** Pound an hour.
I went to reception & they sent me round to the Chest & Heart bit where they took my paperwork & then led me straight down to a room to start the consultation.
Then I had a 10 minute wait until the treadmill test, Then a 5 minute wait for my Blood test & then a 15 minute wait while the nurse & Doctor looked over my test results.
The environment was Lovely, Very clean, very spacious & very relaxed & friendly. The Doctors & Nurses were Superb & I felt like I had All of there attention when they dealt with me.
I was out of there at 10.55am so the whole process took just under 3 hours but I Never felt like I was kept hanging around for no reason & felt like things were moving along at a fair pace.
I stopped at reception to fill in a Feedback slip but they didn't have any so I just past on my Thanks to the receptionist & told her what a Lovely experience I had had.

So basically my experience at Hospital couldn't have been better, Is it like this everywhere in Your experience or am I just lucky to live within the catchment area of Glenfields.

Well...the parking is always stupidly high...even if your visiting people who are on deaths door.

Although, one receptionist managed to blag me a more recent appointment which was nice...rather than waiting for 6 months

Only ever had one hospital experience were I haven't had to hang around for ages waiting to see some one etc.

Free parking in Wales though, which is good.

Not full on A&E/trauma style hospitals I go to but, they're always clean if kept waiting (nature of the work there means there's lots of interruptions/appointment shifting) people regularly come to inform you what's going on/how much longer, even if it's just a 5 minute delay they'll offer to reschedule etc.


Parking is always available (and free), but i use the bus so not an issue

For all the complaining we do about the NHS the actual patient doctor/nurse interaction part is excellent.

No, treatment round here is incomplete and rubbish and it's £2.50/hr to park if you're unfortunate enough to have to go to Kings College hospital. Kings College is filthy and the wards stink of pee. Floors are filthy everywhere and toilets are so dirty you wish you hadn't gone in. Ward staff are rude, though they were nice in A&E. Lewisham hospital is disgusting and full of vagrants and weirdos wandering around.

It's a disgrace basically. What I don't understand is why I'm the only one who seems to be able to see it.

Definitely but more than that the building was just as good, Clean, Pretty & Spacious.
The Nurses I dealt with were more than good they were Superb, Very friendly with lots of banter & not one miserable **** anywhere.

Glenfield's cardiac care unit is very very good, and has been for a long time. Unfortunately the surrounding care and the time taken to get there has always been the problem. My late grandfather had a triple-bypass performed at Glenfield, and they were great, the sheer length of time before the NHS committed to the action, and all the other hospitals he was in around that time was a completely different story however. Unfortunately the delays in actually committing to the Op meant that although it certainly prelonged his life, it was never as good as it could have been had it been done 3 years sooner.

Buildings round here are terrible small weird curvy corridors but clean though



They really old but with new parts so are really strange.

Sorry to hear about your Grandad Dolph.
Seems like I just got lucky then by the looks of it as my Doctor sent me there within a week of me speaking to him.
I shall just have to Praise Glenfields cardiac unit on it's own then & wait until I experience the other side of the NHS.

I had an operation on my intestines and that went reasonably well...

Although originally in MK hospital they believe I as on drugs, as they couldn't find anything wrong...then about five docters would congregate on the end of my bed talking in giberish (Whatever non english language) and not keep me informed...had to tell them eventually to actually tell me what they were discussing!

Well being Mr Chatty I engaged with a number of other people waiting. One chap had been in Glenfields for a bypass just 6 months before & said the place was a Dream come true compared to Peterborough. The lady next to me said the same & pretty much the Whole waiting room nodded in agreement.

When I spoke to my nurses about it they said the same & said that Glenfields was the Nicest hospital any of them had worked at.


I do take your point though obviously & I am interested in other peoples opinions to get an idea on how things are nationally.

Had a operation on my jaw after i broke it. Though about 2 weeks later than i needed it so now my jaw is off to one side. Once they decided i need an operation it happened the next day and i have no complaints about the staff.

Though saying that i had regular appointments after that to check on my jaw and they were always awful. They seemed to cram as many appointments in a possible. I think they gave about 5 mins per appointment even though most took over 30mins. Result was you had to spend 3-4hours waiting before you were seen. They did this every week without fail.

I think you were lucky mate - took a friend down to Portsmouth last night for a drip and blood tests - something that should have taken 1.5 to 2hrs maximum. We were there 4 hours, mostly spend sitting around waiting with no idea what was going on

Paying for parking should be made illegal at hospitals, after a crash a few of us had to go in for checkups as we had some stiffness and one of our mates had concussion.

Bit of a urine take that when we got there we had to bugger off again to go and get some change.

My local one is alright, ok, it stinks on some of the wards but it's always going to.

I just went to have an ultrasound this morning (No I'm not pregnant) and the staff were polite, the appointment of time and the ultrasound technician was an attractive mid thirties female. Result.

I've spent 35 years on and off in the care of the NHS and I've only ever had a few bad experiences.

The hospital where I am having treatment and have been for the last 15 months on and off for a football accident is full of nice staff but my god it's dirty sometimes. Although I moan that it's taken them 15 months to get to the point of realising I need an operation, some recent events involving a family member and the NHS psychiatric teams has really shown me that when a life is a stake the measures are in place in my local area to save those in most need.

Just be glad you didn't have to go to the George Elliot Malc, bunch of morons there. Went a while back for an x-ray after a concrete barge board fell on my foot, they told me it wasn't broken and basically kicked me out, bearing in mind I could barely walk.

I just had an Ankle arthroscopy at Southlands in Worthing. It is done under General anesthetic. I was booked in at 8 am. I saw the anesthetist at 8.20 am, surgeon at 8.45 am and was on the operating table at 9am. Surgery is about 2 hours long.

Care was excellent and I was home and in bed sleeping it off by 12 noon. Totally happy here.

Can sympathise, I got tossed out of A&E after a football accident, told I had a sprain and essentially to man up. After 2 months of continuous GP visits and begging for referrals an MRI showed my lateral ligament in two pieces and a chipped and shifted bone. Still, year and half on and nearly there to getting it fixed I hope Might be able to walk without pain again.
