what is it with people and double yellow lines ?

double yellow lines means no parking on them / part of road that is lined
yet at the end on my road people are either stupid or just dont care, its starting to make me angry.

At the end of my road you have to pull out on to a busy high street, both sides have double yellow lines, yet people always park there. Im having to pull out almost into middle of the road to be able to see if its clear to go.

oh

and sundays is the best, the florist has a huge lorry from holland deliver flowers on a sunday, he parks on the yellow lines but half way accross the road im pulling out of too !!!! i once got out the car and went to the lorry, the florist and the driver were in the lorry sorting her order out, i explained the situ ( your parke half way across road, i cant see etc etc ) she said he wont be long, chill out !
very very annoying !

Indeed, it can be highly annoying.

At our house, we have double yellows on a stretch of road adjacent to our driveway and since our driveway is quite busy at times it's quite necessary for that area of parking to be empty. Two of my dad's friends have had accidents reversing out of the drive because of a vehicle on those double yellows.... (One even had the Primera rear view camera lol)

On a couple of occasions when there was someone parked in them over night or for a large period of time, my mum actually phoned the police, who promptly had the car towed away :D - I lold at the time.

Reported it?

done it, well ive not but the lady accross from me is like mrs neighbourhood watch uk, and she has. there was a weekend or 2 of the community wardern people issuing tickets but that was months ago

Dufresne it tbh!

Every day call the local police station and council and list the reg plates of the cars at the end of the road and request some action.

Sooner or later they'll cave :p

I hate that too. Not much you can do other than point it out to them and drive round unfortunately.

We have double yellows outside our house, granted in the daytime lots of cars parked on them is annoying but it really doesnt obstruct anything at night.

We had a guy outside writing tickets at 8.30pm the other night. We thought it was a bit ridiculous.

or they'll arrest the OP for wasting police time... :o

parking on double yellows really hacks me off. almost as much as people that don't indicate at round abouts or when they change lanes on the motorway

o
I'd be inclined to go and walk down the road at night and let their tyres down

Call you local authority and ask them to confirm the TRO is up to date and in order on the road in question, once they have done so ask them to kindly enforce the restrictions, advise them should sufficient enforcement not take place that you shall be bringing this to the attention of both your local MP but also the local papers.

The locals love to jump up and down on parking enforcement if it's too heavy handed or non existent!

If the TRO ( traffic road order ) is not in place or effective then nobody can take any action other than the police an only then if the vehicles are causing a danger via means of obstruction.

Just report it or do as i did once.

same situation as you, got sick and tired of seeing the cars parked there as its causes more danger to us trying to leave the road.

All the cars were still parked there at night so i look my yellow paint and simply painted two large double yellow lines into there cars.

whole process took about 5 mins, it looked amazing and i didnt see the cars again.

JOB DONE

What annoys me more is when some people think, just because there are no double yellows, this automatically means they can park there - e.g. the corner of a juntion.

To be fair though...there should be yellow lines there :p

But yes...you shouldn't be parking there regardless

This is the worst of the worst thing and ive solved that problem with a friend.

We put our own Yellow Lines there, all you need to 2 people with 2 buckets of yellow paint. Both of you go out between 2am-4am when its quiet both start on the other side of the road so you will cross eachother, then just doing it again so theres 2 yellow lines.

works wonders

OP - I could check if you live in Manchester.

If the TRO ( traffic road order )

Traffic Regulation Order
I'm currently writing/cadding/parkmapping some now for the drop-off/collection points and other roads around Manchester Airport.

Not many of the restrictions there have legal orders atm....

Used have a problem with one of the pubs getting deliveries where they parked on double yellows on a busy road at rush-hour. They had little option but to unload there but should not have done this at peak times. Would delay all the traffic 15-20 minutes. I had called the pub owners and the council on a couple of occassions with no results, so took a photograph and wrote a letter to the local newpaper, which as printed and they followed it up with an article interviewing pub owners about the disruption. Owners apologised to the community and ensured all deliveries are done outside of peak times.
