Will 650w power supply support a 5850 or 5870

OCZ are a top brand and their PSU's are rated highly, only an absolute novice would suggest otherwise, they give a three year no hassle straight swap warranty if your PSU fails

I have 5870 and Antec NEO HE 550 power, cant fault it, i had this PSU for good few years now, i think what ever you buy it should be good brand with no less than 550 wats with sollid PCIx amps delivery

Actually they have been using crappy TRec capacitors in these PSUs for a while, which are cheap and won't last all that long. I guess you could go for a return though when it does.

It also failed HardOCP's original test:

They had to run it in a cooler environment than their usual benchmarks for it to reach it's rated power.

Head over to the corsair forums, PSU section, full of failures, I've had a OZC PSU 700 watt for just over three years and it's still going strong, so one bad review here or there means nothing, there are ten good reviews to counter it.

I have a 620w Corsair running my rig and it has never caused as much as a whisper of a problem :).

You won't go wrong with one but that doesn't mean you can't get something just as well made for less from another manufacturer :).

you could possibly pull it off with your 470w version if its a decent brand.

5850 or 5870, they both good cards. Some buy 5850 and clock them to 5870 speeds but if your not into overclocking and like me prefer peace of mind just go for 5870. (FYI i don't own a 5870).

People tend to post when they have issues, not when they are happy with their product. Corsair PSUs were extremely popular for a while (and still are I suppose) so a lot were sold and that means more chance of someone having a problem.

You would be just as likely to find a forum full of OCZ complaints as people tend to head to those forums to mention their problems. That doesn't mean they are bad PSUs.

I've built at least 6 PCs with a Corsair power supply and the majority of my friends with self built computers use them as well. None of us have ever had a problem, bar one person who was missing a cable in the package and was sent one swiftly by Corsair.

It is worth noting the PSUs I mention are mostly older ones though, I think mine is approaching 2 and a half years in age now, so maybe the older ones were built better?

5870 will easily run on that PSU. If u think u may one day add a second gfx card for crossfire then consider the 750W or 850W models -wish i had!

HX650 would be fine with a 5850/5870. I have been running 2 5850's and the max peek power draw from the wall has been 566W which includes 3 monitors (25 Watts each), a router and some logitec speakers. If I had known before hand, I would not have upgraded my HX620 to the TX950.
