tonight panarama is about illegal downloading, adn talking about throtteling or cutting off persistant offenders.

They have a "security expert" who has found bit torrent on 1 PC in a family house and said "this is used to download music & films" Yes that is true but it is also a LEGAL piece of software and a protocal. so how can this software be illegal!!!

I don't think he said that, he said that they're using the software to download illegal content rather than bittorrent being illegal.

but mainly implying that that is all it is used for. If he had said that the software is legal but used for illegal purposes then that would be better

Yeah, but let's be frank, illegal filesharing is it's primary use for the majority of people. There's only so many times you can download linux.

It was very hyped up :D

Indeed. Most of the comments from the recording industry were laughable. More carrot, less stick IMO.

If I could pay say 50p-£1 to view the episode of House which is currently being shown in the US just once, then I'd pay that. There is so much content I'd love to pay for but I can't.

Panorama is brilliant on technology, they had an excellent programme on the dangers of Wi-Fi ...

It wasn't really very interesting. File sharing (or newsgroup use) isn't going to end after the introduction of the Digital Economy Bill. Artists will simply have to adjust to the new reality. There's still a living to be made.

Hardly an effort though...

I'll sum it up then with @actionjaxon666's tweet:
Wow, that episode of #Panorama was bull**** actually. I'm surprised it didn't say "paid for by the Labour party" in the credits.

Bad journalism with bad experts and generally incompetent people from the recording industry with equally incompetent parents with a tiny bit of sensisble talk from some lefties.

Oh and a crap rapper "singing" about his songs getting downloaded.

That better Mr Burnsy? :)

IP addresses link you to a computer.

...and not who is using it at the time. That's why they go after the bill payer. Most stupid law ever...well apart from the American DCMA that is...or the Terrorism laws or... , oh it is just another stupid law then paid for my corporate lobbying.
