Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition is Intel’s most capable and downright devastating PC processor ever

I love that line

I honestly expected it to be more, but its still not cheap

It's not such a bad investment when you consider it'll likely be the top dog for the next few years.

I'll wait for the non-extreme version though I rather like having two kidneys. :p

I really don't see the point in it, yes it has 6 cores, but in a year we'll have 8 core CPUs anyway, AMD are already releasing 12 core server based CPUs.

It does seem it's the furthest that can be done with 1366 though.

Someone mentioned investment with regards to computer hardware?! You must be off your trolley unless you plan to keep it pristine with box n all until the year 2100, when it will be an antique.

Indeed, there's no such thing as an investment when it comes to computer hardware.

Of those buying this thing, 1% will actually have a need for it (rendering or whatever), whilst the other 99% will be buying simply for bragging rights as always. Of that 99%, about 80% will vehemently deny this of course and will go to great lengths to explain why they have a valid need for such a processor :p :D

You're not going to see any better Intel CPU until the middle of 2011 according the the Intel roadmap, so this will certainly be top dog for about 2 years, and be very capable for 4 years.

But then saying that, a 4GHz 920 will still be good in 4 years too.

Games have probably in the last year and a bit been benefiting from multicore systems but games themselves haven't needed that power, not even gta4 was that demanding even when they said it was a next generation game.

I think intel are missing out on the 4GHz market. They have cpu's that will do it but they don't seem bothered to bring one out at stock. Think the integral speed is more important again compared to extensive multitasking
