oh so this how many time i've done it with these 3 women?

1st, 4 years: over 200 i guess

2nd, 9 months: a couple of dozen times

3rd, 5 months and counting: about 40 times and increasing

so nearly 300 times overall

Nope. If it's a serious thing, then there isn't anything you should lie about. Most things will be found out eventually anyway, should the relationship last long enough. If asked, then it's purely an insecurity thing of course, and telling the truth and talking about it is much more beneficial than just telling a lie and leaving it, or telling them it's not important will send them on a paranoia trip. :)

Seriously, if you can't tell the truth about something as insignificant as "how many?" how can you be trusted to tell the truth with something that really counts? :p

I used to get asked a lot and there was never a 'right' answer. I think it was because I used to have a bad rep but I didn't really deserve it.

I have never asked a girl this and see absolutely no point in it. The truth doesn't work either as... some people can't handle the truth :o

The more you've slept with, the worse it'll look and the more she'll feel like just another one in the pot. Girls in serious relationships like to feel special, not that they're another psychological notch. The bottom line is - she doesn't need to know.
 
Surprised so many avoid it, im just honest about it. Though I had a 6year relationship and im 22 so my number is still fairly respectable. I think if it was much higher I would garnish it a little by subtracting a few to avoid complete manwhore status

The real bottom line is, you shouldn't lie to each other about anything.

So again.. why are you so comfortable lying to someone you (potentially) might share the rest of your life with?

Relationships don't have to be a struggle for power between the two of you. If you just be honest then you've at least not set yourself up for a fall if they found out another way. (e.g. you slipping up in a later conversation..)

My girlfriend has asked me, and immediately I could tell that she wasn't actually bothered by the number, but was insecure about other things. We talked about it, and addressed the real issue (which turned out she thought she wasn't good enough for me, and she was already thinking she was just another notch on the bed-post.)

EDIT to address your edit: Yes, that is true. So do men. Men don't want to feel like they are the next in a long line of dildos on legs. So why not show and tell them they are special and why, even if you have been with many others, rather than just lie that you haven't?

Ok ok, seeing as were all coming out of the closet.

I was a late looser (for this Generation) @ 16(i think i was anyway) It was the start of my first love, was with her for 3 years until she slept with a clan member of mine, WTF! i got OWNED with an over-sized pwnstick, so did it, that's a story to be discussed over a pint though. After my First relationship went sour i slept with 5 in one week! then nothing for a good 6 months. Then met my current missus and carried out the deed within a week or two, didn't think it would last... She was one of those high maintenance type that you pull to look good, turns out she is the best thing since sliced bacon. 5 Years on and... get my leg over once a month if i am lucky.
