The 5830 does not suck so much....

Well I have been playing crysis at 1920x1080p V.HIGH with 4x AA and it was very nice.

But I can give some benchmarks, any requests?

unigine, bad company 2, dirt 2 bench, crysis bench

and i'm presuming you sold the person the game that came with the card and not just gave it to them?

A quick one would be the unique heaven benchmark at 1680x1050, 4xAA, 16xAF and DX11 on (including tessallation).

This is more comparable than Vantage at least.

NO WONDER the mem clocks so well. THey are using the same 0.4ns ram (HC04) from samsung as for the 5870 cards.

Its rated for 1250mhz (2500DDR)

The HD5830 - although it hasn't been confirmed every about them points that their failed HD5870 cores hence why they have a higher TDP then the next card up (HD5850), has a huge PCB by default and clocks very highly.

Thats over £50 more expensive with the game.

Have you seen your post count? You better post something quick!

Its more to do with the fact that the core clocks are similar, there is more to the core than shaders. All of the analogue circuitry will be intact and that will take a fair few watts for instance.

Also if the cores were so defective they would not reach 1ghz on stock volts.

It's getting the same vantage score as a stock HD5870 which is not terrible.

It has a different performance profile though since it has more bandwidth but less core power.

5870 at stock, fair bit short of that GPU score.

As a review site said, "There's no such thing as a bad card, just a badly priced card". This card would be great if it cost £160 - £210 is too close to a 5850.

Btw, is it me or has the price of all components been going up a lot recently?

Yea, it's just you. We've all been getting stuff for 50% discount!

But seriously, I think absolutely everything is creeping up, not just tech.

That vantage score is off. Most reviews and what I have seen place it around 16k mark.

Considering I got 19k @ 1000/1400 that score is BS.

Nah, you have no clue, try posting what driver you are using up, give more detail, I'm using the 10.3 betas, and by the looks of it your card is BS. 5850 walks all over it, I guess some peps have no clue when it comes to purchasing the right card.

And don't factor in the whole score in vantage when comparing GPU performance, just go with the GPU score, that's where your card gets wasted by the premium 5000 cards. And you didn't get 19000k according to the link you posted up.
