Am i being ripped of for car repair £2000 ZAFIRA 06

to the OP, i mean, did all this failure happen simultaneously/instantaneously?

if something had dropped and was causing an issue for time before complete failure, how did you not notice?

if it all just imploded in 1 fell swoop i could understand but it sounds like a chain of events...over time.. im wondering if it could have been picked up sooner before a huge hole got punched in the 'mission?
 
£1000 is about the price you will end up paying to get it done elsewhere, maybe a touch more but nothing drastic, but will probably be for a second hand g/box so I'd get the dealer to do it for that.

Also I don't think it's worth doing clutch at only 24k miles, but you can always inspect it when the g/box is off and make a choice then.

Never heard or felt anything before it happened. Just parking up in tesco car park and when i got out to go in to do some shopping i noticed oil that seemed to follow under my car when i looked under i saw the bottom was split open and a big chunk of metal hanging off. I walked and followed the line of oil back through the car park it went back about 1/4 of a mile before it stopped. I didn't hear anything neither so it's pretty weird
 
well had the new gearbox fitted last week chuffed

un-chuffed the new gearbox is faulty and is going back in for another one this week you reckon i should seek some compo or something for this. The new box that was fitted has a faulty 1st,2nd,3rd gear think the syncrho meshes are messed up can only select 2nd using brute force 1st and 3rd are just a pig i have been left sitting at lights for about 30 seconds while struggling to get 1st gear

Well done for coming back & updating the thread though as it really boils my **** when folk come in & start a thread & don't update it, You get involved then they just leave you hanging wondering what happened. :p

doubt it

you've done well to get a 50% contribution out of them.

You can push for more in light of the poor quality recon gearbox you've been given. no idea how you'll get on though ! mention loss of earnings from taking time off to bring car in / out etc.. and see where it gets you :)

no it wasn't a recon it was brand new of a crate they couldn't give me a recon because mine was shattered and couldn't be repaired, so they've now ordered yet another new one on which i'm waiting for to be delivered to the garage.

They are trying to get me a bigger courtesy car this time the last one was a 1 litre corsa. So they are trying to free up the bosses zafira for me to use while mine is in(crosses fingers it's a VXR lol:D)

i'll keep you all posted when i find out whats going on.

The moment they offered to knock 50% off is the moment you got given a recon box.

Just because they can't exchange yours over, doesn't mean Vauxhall wouldn't rather send a recon box than send a brand new one.
 
It could indeed be the case, but they would be in deep do do if they specified and agreed a new box but actually gave you a 2nd hand one.

Really does make me wonder reading this thread! My dads Gti hd a broken ac unit just a month after warrenty. They were quite helpful and i remember all he had to pay for was the a.c fluid or something. Just keep hamering them and see where you get.

You blatently havent, which is why the thing is a dud.

They may have told you that, but they've sourced one on the cheap. May not be a recon, but its certiainly not brand ne out of a crate if its that sort of condition that the first 3 gears dont work.

No idea where they've got it from, but that sort of stuff doesnt happen on brand new out of a crate gearboxes.

no brand new i promise seen the receipt for the box from the order form i know the parts guy and the head of repairs and servicing(he'd never rip me off cause he knows damn well i check everything after work has been done known him for 5 years now)been under the car myself today to inspect it definately brand new box,totally fresh all over.

so they are fitting another new one sometime soon hopefully, then the one that comes of is being stripped to see why it's a dud.

i'll update again when the box has arrived and they let me know a date to take it in
 
Yup.

Lots will sell remanufactured parts as new as well. Sometimes through necessity, ie third party contractors no longer having casts etc.

2 grand for a gearbox and fitting? That is absolutely crazy.
