Morons who dislike being overtaken

Depends on the road and conditions.

Yeah of course tyres etc will make a difference but if they are in the legal limits they shouldnt be that huge.

Sorry you cannot make a statement like that and expect no criticism, as most people know on this forum tyres are of great importance and play a massive roll in safety, (not grilling you just saying) :)

Yeah these alpha males are sad. It's not personal, I just want to drive a bit faster than you're going. Don't freak out.

I hate you.

;)

It's a mixed blessing - my patience has deteriorated tenfold since getting it.

It's not particularly a good thing but knowing how quick the car is, I don't want to be pootling behind some Micra at half the speed limit when I can be past in a couple of seconds.

And I bet the difference between a car with **** brakes and **** tyres, and a car with good brakes and good tyres is enormous.

!!!!

I give up, i put my viewpoint across and have been criticised for it. If you guys feel it is safe to do whatever you feel like then go for it. Im not going to stop you.

End of discussion for me.

There are MANY MANY factors when it comes to braking distances. For a start go and read the evo tyre review test and look at teh braking tests in both dry and wet. This is only considering the tyres obviously!

Then consider the weight of a car, brake setup, driver reactions and you have a HUGE variance on braking distances.

Complete rubbish as mentioned by Mike in the quote above, plus others.. Just think rather than guessing about something you clearly know nothing about then getting in a huff when you are put right!

Use this learning experience to expand on your knowledge and it may help improve your driving.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but its worth mentioning that the speed limits we have today were set based on braking distances in the 70s when people were rolling around on drum brakes all round.

I understand some limits in different locations have been changed since then, but the fundamental guidelines of those limits remain the same.

What hacks me off in particular at the moment is people who are sat on cruise control, but then pull out into the fast lane to pass something going slower - but they sit on the cruise and dawdle past with a few miles per hour difference, causing everyone in the fast lane to have to slew to a stop....

I'm actually guilty of doing this, I often overtake on a motorway just on my cruise control, but I don't do it when there are cars coming along faster than I am, if I wish to cut into the BMW lane (I actually don't drive in most of the time believe it or not :o ) in front of faster moving traffic I put my foot down.

I've had people in the past clearly not amused by me overtaking them, but I've never had anyone actually do something really stupid or dangerous on me, although I have witnessed some pretty stupid stunts involving others, then again most of the cars involved have had half or even less than half the power that I do, so even if they wanted to try and prove their manliness, they wouldn't be able to do much anyway I guess.

I've actually found women can be the worst ones for getting agitated when being overtaken on a single carriageway rather than men.

I live right on the edge of North East Worcestershire, where the country side meets the very outer edge of Birmingham's suburban spread, so I drive a lot of single lane roads, many are 60mph roads too and I very often find people doing 40 or even less on them when it's fine to go faster so single lane road overtakes are common around here.

You just have to laugh at the people who can't stand being overtaken (If I didn't laugh about it I'd probably be in a lot of trouble lol). It can get annoying though, especially when you overtake, pull back in the left lane, then the car you've just overtaken decides to speed up and does the same to you. This car then slows back down, so we then have to go through the same thing yet again!

Had one yesterday, coming off the dual carriageway onto a roundabout. There are two lanes taking me into the turn off, so I go for the right lane as I need to be in that lane further down the road. So this tit in his mums civic (1.6 SE) comes racing up my arse going round the roundabout (I'm not going slow). So we get to the turn off with him nearly in my boot and there are a few cars ahead in both lanes, he darts into the inside lane, revving to the extreme (V-tec was kicking in yo!) and goes up the arse of the other car, making sure he was a couple of inches in front of me. An apparent victory for him over me as I look across seeing his reaction lol I just had to laugh at him needing to get in front of me.

Im saying it annoys me and i dont understand why they do it for very little gain.

There are many reasons why people will overtake for what seems like very little gain. Here are some of them.

a) On a long journey where you dont REALLY know the road (But obviously you can see its safe) you've no idea if there are a set of traffic lights and a village in 5 miles time. Therefore you'll make an overtake anyway.

b) Every little helps. I've often made overtakes which whilst completely safe would appear to be pointless. 'Why did he overtake me when there are 3 cars in front of me anyway?'. Then, 3 miles later when there is a sufficient gap to get the rest, I'm gone by virtue of the fact I'd already done most of the work. Its very rare you'll be able to overtake 4 cars in a row but you might be able to perform two perceived as 'pointless' overtakes and then your third and final overtake, several miles later, is two cars which then puts you on a clear road.

There are loads of similar reasons, as well.

Ah but that all depends on how far away from the exchange you are ;)

(Yay for VM)

Yes, I have heard ADSL services seem to be getting a bit bogged down in many areas these days, I actually use VM Cable myself, used to be Blueyonder and it's always been very good where I live, although saying that I have the 50Mbit service and at peak times it's probably more like 20Mbit, but that's fast enough that it isn't an issue that I notice a lot of the time.

I find people who don't maintain lane discipline a bigger headache, drifting over the white line when over taking, more so HGV's which when you're in a car that'll fit under the trailer, is a little daunting.

Overtaking doesn't annoy me in the slightest. What does annoy me is those that feel I've taken it upon myself to ruin their day by sticking to the speed limit either on the road, or for a R-plate driver.

This^^ Been caught out a few times on roads I didn't know. So when it was safe to overtake I would, but a little further up the road (unbeknown to me) there is a roundabout or traffic lights. I still get the looks of disgust, 'what was the point in that' sort of thing, but obviously couldn't be helped.

I've no problem with other cars passing my car.
But the drafting type overtake, where the faster driver will pull right up to the slower car's bumper and swerve out, as if to say 'There! I showed you!' - I don't 'get' that.
