Morons who dislike being overtaken

I get it all the time in my Yaris. I drive on a dual carriageway on the way from work sometimes and theres always at least 1 taxi driver who hates my overtaking them. The sit in lane 1 doing 50mph, I then come up behind them at 70mph go to over take them, then I pull over into lane 1 again. They for some strange reason decide that they want to drive right behind me and trying to push me. Does my head in but I just sit there doing 70mph.

What hacks me off in particular at the moment is people who are sat on cruise control, but then pull out into the fast lane to pass something going slower - but they sit on the cruise and dawdle past with a few miles per hour difference, causing everyone in the fast lane to have to slew to a stop....

Doesn't that issue just stem from people using the middle lane incorrectly on M-ways?

Depends on the road and conditions.

Yeah of course tyres etc will make a difference but if they are in the legal limits they shouldnt be that huge.

linglongs vs goodyears

linglongs take DOUBLE the distance to stop, almost as long as what the highway code says. (note that the highway code book has absurdly long stopping distances to account for rubbish cars/tyres)

i do have a dislike for people tailgating, trying to overtake / undertake in situations were its not really suitable.

Eg a 50 limit motorway with roadworks where im doing a GPS 53mph with the rest of the outside lane, but they decide that the 3 car gap between me and the car in front means im not possibly going fast enough and they have to weave in and out to get in front of me and take that gap up.

I have a nasty habit of flooring the throttle as soon as the 50 limit ends and leaving them in my dust. Similarly people who have a habit of tailgaiting me in some P.O.S. 1.2 corsa when im doing 85 in the outside lane with traffic on the inside lane doing 70. I'm not obstructing traffic, they just want to tailgate and barge their way through the traffic and intimidate people out the way.

That sort of person again, i've been known to move over to the middle lane to let them past, only then to put my foot down and leave them in my dust.

But if im in the mood to pootle along the motorway doing 70, i'll gladly move over and let people by. I only object to it when i know im not hindering traffic behind me because there are plenty of cars in front doing the same speed, and they're just being arrogant / impatient trying to force me out the way.

I give up, i put my viewpoint across and have been criticised for it. If you guys feel it is safe to do whatever you feel like then go for it. Im not going to stop you.

End of discussion for me.

No need to sulk just because pretty much everything you've said is rubbish and we've called you on it.

My ex would lose the plot if anyone ever overtook her in her 1.0 Micra. Which to be frank with her driving, was often.

One time she got that into abusing the guy flying past her she started gesturing with both hands when he flipped the finger to her (don't blame him). Que me taking the wheel to prevent us coming off the road and into a 'Welcome to Winchborough' sign.

Pulled the handbrake on her just after as she wouldn't stop and put her in the back of the car. I drove after that giving her one massive dressing down for her behavour.

We split not long after, one week later she went up someone's backside at a set of lights.

Moron.

Just concentrate on the words highlighted and you will be just fine on the roads :D

Im not sulking and everything i have said is not rubbish :S I just said i cant be bothered to argue my point any longer as it is going no where. Infact people have been picking at everything i have said so much ive almost lost sight of why i even originally replied to the thread, oh right it was the fact i get annoyed when people overtake me when im doing the speed limit. Lets leave it at that shall we?
If anything youre behaving like an adolescent continuing to poke and prod me =/

I overtook a guy in an Alfa the other day doing 40 on a NSL B road.

As soon as I got past him he got right up behind me full beams on (I love this, because I sit there with in the cabin and full beams make no difference to me as the auto dimming stuff :D)

Just don't understand it, if you're capable of going that fast in the first place to be up my bumper, why go so slow?

You said you do go over speed limits, but not when the speed limit is already high enough (i'm assuming 60's).

So are you saying that you'll speed in 30's and 40's (where the speed limit is normally low for a reason), but stick to the speed limit in 60's because it's high enough already?

That seems awfully backwards. It's the total opposite for me. I do 30 in 30's and 40 in 40's, but occasionally do 70-80 on 60 roads.

Agreed, 30 for a reason, have fun on the back roads but as soon as I hit a village/town (or 30 limit) I'm doing 30 all the way - It seems nuts to say you speed in an area where there are pedestrians but when its open and clear, or on a highway you will not breach 60??, very strange.

I once got overtaken by a Saab 9-5 blandmobile whilst driving my Rover (the old brown P6) and once he got in front of me, he just sat there at 50 (in a 60).

Needless to say, if you drive an old(er) car, most people make it their mission to get past you irrespective of what the limit is, or what speed they'll continue to do after.

Safe to say I overtook him about 30 seconds later and just left him in the distance.

Sounds like you asked for it tbh?

Not really, they were going below the speed limit in parallel, stopping me from getting past. As soon as there was a gap I went for it, it was perfectly safe.

Didn't have to go fast or drive dangerously. I just had to go on to one side of the road to get past one then back on the other side because that is the way I was turning.

How is that asking for it?

I've seen this done before and it would really **** me off if someone cut me up.

Not such a problem in the Evo as by the time they've seen you go for it, you're two miles up the road :p

No what im trying to point out is that there are speed limits usually because of the type of road and traffic around the area.

There are roads i go above the speed limit but if its high anyway why bother going over.

Because the roads with higher limits are typically the ones most suitable for higher speeds? 90 on a motorway (in suitable conditions) is likely going to be a lot safer than e.g. 60 on a small B road.

I overtake people a lot, because there are an awful lot of incompetent and/or annoying drivers and vehicles that I'd rather have behind me. e.g. The ones that are continuously on their brakes every time another car approaches, or there is a slight bend in the road. The ones that dawdle about at 40 where 60 is both legal and appropriate. The ones that attain at a reasonable speed on straights, but slow to a crawl on the shallowest of bends. The ones that can't keep a constant speed even on the straights. The 4x4's and transits that block my view of the road ahead. The stinking old diesels that shouldn't be on the road. The retards that leave their rear fog lamps on.

Sometimes I make a decent amount of progress from an overtake, sometimes I just catch up with the next obstacle. However until I've overtaken the first one I don't know that's going to happen. Nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.

Actually I was speaking about idiots that get upset about being overtaken to a friend the other day, and we both thought there seem to be less of them around now. I've not had a cretin flash their headlamps or give me abuse just for overtaking them for a long while.
