Geforce GTX 480 massive availability April 6th

Fermi is certainly one heck of a headline stealer. Despite the fact that Nvidia has announced the launch date and the cards' names, there is still plenty of information to write about this particular card.

The recent development is that the card might launch on the 26th in the USA and 27th in Europe mainly due to the 9 hours time difference between California (Pacific time PT) and Central Europe time (CET). At this time, they should remain the launch date but of course it can be pushed.

Now for the fun part, the world-wide availability of Fermi based Geforce GTX 480 and 470 is most likely to happen on the April 6th, due to some logistical issues. The final cards are ready and benchmarkers are getting them as we speak, but it takes some time to manufacture the cards and fly them from China to Europe and US and get them in shops. This might be the cause of the availability delay from 27th of March to April 6th.

As this is all under heavy discussion and it tends to change daily, there will probably be some more changes before 26th.

the wording " MIGHT LAUNCH " is the key here
why does it take 10 days to get from china to europe or usa ?

face it, your not going to see these for a while i think

I agree.

Why buy it ? I mean ATI's 5000 series is here now, mature drivers, it's a cracking card.

I would buy one if it was October/November time, just to heat my house up.

I mean lets face the facts:

Fermi will never beat the 5870/90.

It will be a great,if not noisy hair dryer.

It will be hot enough to cook a Sunday joint.

If all else fails, and B&Q are shut, you can take the wood screws out and finish putting them shelves up.

Also, it will be in good quantities, this time next year.

Hope this is informative for you. :p

I love that they say massive availability......... without a single rumour about numbers being shipped, made and sent out.

Fud has been the single least accurate person in the entire world with regards to Nvidia and AMD details, almost every last thing he's stated has been proven wrong time and time again, not least because his story changes several times throughout one article let alone from day to day and month to month.

Even worse the word massive is subjective. Massive availability for Fermi definately won't be comparable to massive availability of the gtx260. 500 cards might be massive for a 480gtx, compared to 5 a month after that, or it could be 50k a day, down to 5k a week after that, massive when thrown in with entirely no numbers even remotely discussed, well is exactly as useful as Fud tends to be.

I was going to buy a GTX470 or a GTX480 for my birthday in may,But seeing how much juice they will need,I think i will try the ATI 5870,I have never had a ATI card before,Allways been a nVidia person:)

The 4870x2 'required' 650W as a recommendation, the GTX480 is 600W as a recommendation. Why is 'juice' a problem for you with the Fermi's ?

I have a 650 watt PSU but with only two 6 pin power connectors - does this mean I'm limited to a GTX470?

Also is a 470 expected to be similar to to a 5870?

Birthday soon with £300 to spend - decision decisions - would prefer to stay Nvidia though.

im just hoping they come out soon im getting impatient, i want to know for sure on the price and performance before i make my mind up on which way to go..
