Anybody else suffer from this ?

I spend my days dreaming of one day being able to afford something like a Rev. 2 911 GT3 RS, and then having something like a e90 M3 V8 Saloon for use with the family.

But to be able to own and run both, at the same time as having a nice house and having holidays etc.. requires you to be seriously rich. Which working in IT i just wont. Not unless i start running my own IT company which i'm just not cut out for.

Thing is, Statistically speaking, a very very small % of people can afford such a collection of cars. And it deeply depresses me that i'll never be one of them.

Does it bother anybody else ? or are you all quite happy with your current regular cars ? (suffice to say this doesnt apply to you TomO :p )

I'd love to own a Murcielago one day, but I know it'll never happen. I'd be rather worried if I found myself getting depressed by the thought though!

LOL i think everyone has that tendency but the people who can afford to do so have the monies available to them to indulge in those tastes ie Housey is one member that comes to mind.:p.

I guess at the end of the day its down to you to make those pipe dreams of yours come true...who says you cant start up an IT company of some sort...sure it might be slow ie not a lot of money but after a few yrs depending on how well you advertise and whether or not you have clients...you may very well be able to have both an M3 and 911 GT RS.

Id love to be able to afford Ferrari's, porsches and Lambos amonst a few others but as much as i like to dream about those cars...its down to me to get up and do something to achieve those cars if i want it that bad enough...sadly i dont want it that bad or else id be doing something different to what im doing now in order to make those pipedreams of mine come true.

Failing that put everything on black and pray u win big or play the lottery:p

I am happy with my current car and happy with the plans in place for future choices. I think its easier in thatg I tend only to get genuinely enthusiastic about cars I can realistically consider owning.

Well I know what you mean, however I've been exposed to cars like this quite a bit in my life, so I am familiar with them (not the 911 specifically but that level of car). So I have a fairly good idea what they are like and what I am missing or not as the case may be, many of them I think might disapoint, but that depends on your expectation I guess.

While I can't afford such cars myself right now I expect that I will be able to some day, but yes I also work in IT and I would rather not now to be honest, I've been looking to make a change in this regard for a while now, I am just not sure exactly to what or how quite yet though.

Unlike you though, I just can't get into the whole, having a family and settling down sort of thing, I have a long term girl friend (2 and half years), but I have little desire to move in with her (not practical at the moment anyway as it happens) ...I don't really want to share my life or my space much, or my money for that matter ...I don't have any desire to have kids or dogs or anything like that (she however does, so that's going to be a rather big issue in time I expect). So if this continues I guess it gives me an advantage in that respect, I can afford to spend more on nice cars and such than I otherwise could with the overheads of a family.

In essence I am not too bothered right now no, I consider it something to look forwards to :)

What irks me more than anything is that I have the 'support' to do so much more with my life if I were to choose to do so, I just find it hard to motivate myself to actually get out there and do it. I just keep going around in the same old wheel everyday :( ...this is my issue, not fast cars so much. Other people would probably kill to get half the chances and support I could utilise if I motivated myself to do so, I know this ...but that still doesn't make me do it.

More like Housey, Spie and Tom0 penis envy tbh. At least that's how it is for me. I'm a 24 year old lathargic skilless retard with a dream of earning 25k let alone enough to own a vehicle of such value.

I'm more bothered about where I live. I love cars and spend too much time drooling over them daily, but I;d be happy with modding my MX5 into something capable. I'm not into luxuary and therefore wealth. You know when people take pics of their cars and they live on those modern semi-detached cul-de-sacs with a small garage and driveway, probably two decent bedrooms and a box room... yeah, that's what I aspire to.

Oh well!

Keep the faith MrLOL, maybe things will change and you won't be MrLOL for your whole life!

My word, a Fox post that could have come from my mouth (minus the spelling mistake) :p

Yes it really bothers me and is one of the major reasons why I havent bought a new car yet. Nothing really strikes that note in me unless its a Ferrari or something ridiculous.

I think everyone day dreams and wishes forluxury things they want to own, and yes you have to have a certain amount of regular income to be able to not only afford but also justify the purchase.

I myself am in IT also, but I do plan on achieving my dream of buying a Mercielago before I am 35, and I also plan on purchasing many performance cars in between. I have also included purchasing a nice house in my plan.

I have planned my finances carefully, and realistically should be able to purchase a very nice house by early next year and start saving up the 60-70k needed to purchase my Lambo. It is entirely feesible to make my plans come to fruition (as long as someone of the female persuasion does not enter my life and eff it all up) and I am not rich, I am not on a giant salary.

I guess my point is, if you have a realistic plan you can achieve your dreams... :)

Precisely. I look at exotica and think how smart they are but never even consider the possibility of owning one. It is so incredibly unlikely there is just no point in lusting after it. However I see an R34 GTR or Mk4 Supra and think 'one day'.

You've got to be realistic in your aspirations or you will only ever disappoint yourself :).

It's just a question or priorities really - you can own pretty much whatever car you want if you don't mind living with your parents.

I'm young and stupid enough to still believe I'll be able to own and run an M6 at the age of 23 :D

Although most will never be able to afford a 911 or similiar there are plenty of cars cheaper than can give nearly as much fun. There is nothing wrong with a £18k Boxster S, A £10k e39 M5, £1k's worth of MX5 and £2k's worth of supercharger etc...

The running costs will still be the same, but as an initial purchase price will be a lot less.

I care more about simply trying to get into the quickest, best car I can for my age atm for my budget - which changes daily.

Any of my mates that get into my Bravo get blown away by the engine because they all drive 1.2l Corsas. For me it feels slow and not much fun anymore so I'll hopefully be jumping into something with a bit more umph sooner rather than later - although to a certain degree I wish I'd never been introduced or test driven faster cars, as I don't think I'll ever be happy for long enough.

To echo what Daz has said, I can easily live on 15% of my monthly wages if I wanted to, which would mean I could afford to run/own some serious metal - but I enjoy spending money on other things such as nights out, clothes etc...

Only you can make it happen. Realistically you won't win the lottery or some rich aunt/uncle will leave you with a wod of cash so it's up to you to earn the cash.

Can't just go along dreaming everyday cos it'll never happen.

Nope, the only "dream" car I have is a refurbished DB5, but I don't "yearn" for it.

Other then that, I'm probably going to buy an Elise soon, and couldn't be bothered what daily runner we have, just so happens its the Mazda 3 at present which is fine.
