The 5830 does not suck so much....

I doubt it is driver issue. The 5830 has downscale a bit too much from its 5850/5870 big brothers, making its performance closer to the 5770 side instead of in the very middle between 5770 and 5850 (whereas the price is closer on the 5850 side making the 5830 very poor value). The gap in terms of performance between 5770 and 5830 simply isn't as big as between 4870 and 4890.
True its has been dumbed down from the 5850 a fair bit but i thought it should be at gtx285 ish level going by specs. On paper it beats out the 4890 in every area bar clock speeds or have i missed somthing key?

Well, I just read an article in the newest issue of Custom PC and it says "both the GTX275 and HD4890 deliver similar and, is come cases, superior performance to that of the HD5830." The 5830's performance is roughly at the position of 40/60 between gap the 5770 and 5850.

At stock speed they are not very good, but with a 25% core overclock and 40% memory overclock it starts looking better.
I don't doubt that, but it still doesn't change the fact that 5850 is much better bang for bucks. If only they would price the damn 5830 at £150~170 :(
5830=decent card, fail pricing

Managed to pick up a Sapphire 5830 for £165.

It's not so bad for the price really, it’s no 5850 but overall I’m quite happy with it.

Just a quick question though, how to I bypass the clock setting in CCC ?

I have MSI Afterburner and have changed the EnableUnofficialOverclocking to 1 but it still sets the clocks back to normal if I go pass 875 on the core and 1200 on memory.

Any ideas ?

Yes CCC overdrive is enabled, I can clock the card to 875/1200 but that is far as the sliders go. MsiAfterburner lets me put the clocks to the same but anything higher and it set back to defult.

I have tried AMD GPU clock tool as well but it can't find a compatible device ?

I wasn't aware that I could flash it to that Bios, is there any confirmation that it works successfully.

I did managed to get it sorted, I was only using MSI afterbuner 1.5, so after upgrading to 1.5.1 I could apply the clocks without issues.

Now got the card at 990/1300, i'm getting 16700 in Vantage with those clocks so i'm pretty happy to be honest.

Ill jump into this thread, a friend wants a GFX card, ideally DX11 for part of an upgrade and £200 is max they are willing to spend on one, I tried to budge him up £20-30 but no deal.
I was going to get a 5770 for hip but noticed this on here,

Its an XFX 5830 with what looks like a non standard Heatsink, and according to XFX seems a bit smaller than the normal 5830. I know there is a bit of dislike of these cards, but it fits his bill and according to the benchies a better card than the 5770. Is all the "hate" for the 5830 down to the price and size, rather than its performance, at £200+ this card aint great, but for £190 (in his range) is it the best he can do?

I was lucky to get a launch 5850 at the same price as this card which is way too much really specially when i bet there be lots of second hand 58** pop up if Fermi turns out to be fast and the inevitable price drop by ATI to put pressure on them.
