Tonight im ordering a full build for my friend.

He is wanting:

-5850
-24inch monitor (probably the popular and cheap benq one out there atm)
-Either i5 or phenom black ed.

My specs are struggling to stay under a grand so if somebody could try to help me out?

Machine used purely for gaming - oh and must run cool as his room is hotttt!

Many thanks :)

What other components are you ordering? they must be pretty high end if you struggle to keep to that budget.

you could get an i7 rig for that kinda money.

Thanks for that spec Lemin, seems nice but still a little over budget but looks as if he is just going to have to cough up!

Ideally wouldnt want to go over 800 but I cant see what we could lose from there..

If you did go AMD, and you're not overclocking, it would be worth saving a few £ and getting the 955 rather than the 965, then increasing the CPU multiplier by 1. The 965 can go a bit further at the top end, but if you aren't overclocking a great deal, then increasing the multiplier essentially gives you a 'free' 965, as it is easily done on stock voltage.

The Asus M4A785TD-V Evo is a great motherboard and has an 8+2 phase VRM with heatsinks. Many cheaper AMD and Intel motherboards have weaker 4+1 phase VRMs with no heatsinks meaning they get very hot when overclocking.

The OP should also consider the Asus M4A79XTD Evo which can do symmetrical Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X/8X:

They should also look at this PSU:

The build will be a bit more expensive but another HD5850 1GB could be added at a later date.
