How do say telephone numbers?

It all depends on the number. If it has doubles/triples in it, it can change the way I say the number

I do the same. My phone number as a kid had to be said 01234 56 78 90 because the first two numbers after the area code were the same for the whole town and then there was a double.

I can't believe there are people out there who don't know 4 digit area codes exist, there are quite a few of them!

077 252 55 559

Thats how i say my mobile numb, is confusing but havin so many similar numbers confuses people no matter what way i say it dumb asses

Now that would annoy me if you were an older person struggling to remember their number :p

Me: Whats your mobile number then?

**Me Types in '07'

Old Person: oo right let me check

**Two minutes later

Old Person: 077...

Yay you've given me one number!

I love not working on the phone anymore. :D

Actually this whole thread is pointless I've just realised. As long as someone can remember their own damn number I don't care how they say it.

Ah, but do we say 'Oh' or 'Zero'?

It varies, I use both frequently although if I'm usually consistent within the context of that particular call.

As for how I'd say numbers:
Landlines: 0000 111 2222
Mobiles: 077 777 777 77

It does sometimes change according to the number, I don't always follow the same format, just whatever seems easiest and most likely for people to remember so if I notice an obvious pattern in the number I might base my diction on that.

Question is - does anyone still dial numbers without the area code?

I'm in such a habit through work of calling people all over the country and taking phone numbers off my mobile where the area code has to be there, that I pretty much dial the full number + area code even when I could skip the 020, or when at home just dial the 6 digits - still the area code goes in!

What about numbers that have a 4 digit dialling code?

I know Stoke is 01782, which means their phone numbers, minus the dialling code are 6 digits long, however, in Liverpool, for example, the dialling code is 4 digits which means landline numbers are 7 digits, so you say the numbers differently.

so for Liverpool numbers, it'll be:

0151-123-1234

For Stoke numbers:

01782-123-123

For mobiles, I've always said it:

07830-123-123
