Fiesta 1.25 MAF Sensor?

Our fiesta fell ill yesterday, loss of power, and the engine warning light started flashing. Managed to get it home and started to read up on the problem. Changed the plugs as a matter of course as they were due a change anyway. This made little difference so picked up a new coil pack and leads and fitted today. The warning light has gone out and car is a lot better, but is misfiring under 2k rpm. As soon as it hits 2k its off better than ever.

A bit more reading tonight and I'm now leaning towards the MAF sensor being iffy, but before spending anymore, I wanted to clarify should I expect a period of adjustment for the ECU after changing the coil pack?

My other half's Fiesta 1.25 (1998) was having rough idle issues, which developed about two weeks ago, and gradually got worse.


I was expecting it to be idle control valve or MAF sensor issues (as I'd read on the net), but it turned out there was a small air pipe that was split all up one side. I wasn't with her when she picked it up, and she doesn't care about cars, so that's the best explanation I had from her :p

They fitted a new pipe and changed the plugs whilst they were at it.

£30 :D

I'm sure someone else can elaborate, my car knowledge is limited, but it's worth checking whatever that pipe/tube is
 
If you suspect it's the MAF, disconnect it and if the car runs better (by just guessing the airflow rather than metering it) then you can be sure it's at fault. If the car runs worse then you know the MAF is it fault. I'd personally lean towards the plug leads seeing as you've already changed the plugs.

Any idea where the MAF is located on the 1.25 Zetec SE engine Janesy? (the zetec engine where the air filter is above the manifolds) I tried having a look myself but I'm not too sure where abouts it is around the air intake.

I disconnected the MAF sensor earlier this evening. It seemed a little better but still not 100%.

We might just live with it for now. Its going in as part ex in the near future so dont really want to throw too much at it.

If it seemed better than it may be worth cleaning the MAF, as I said, if the engine can guess the airflow better than the MAF then you need to clean or replace it.

The MAF is at the front right hand side of the engine by, the hose leaving the airbox.
 
The MAF/ICV on a 1.25 zetec is easy enough to take out and clean, I did it on my g/f's old Fiesta and I know nothing about car internals :p

Now that you mention that the air filter is above the engine, that's the model without a MAF. So that's your answer, there isn't one :p
