Morons who dislike being overtaken

Aren't you supposed to use both lanes though?

thats how merge in turn works. if the lane is still there for 20meters why not use it?

Oh dear. Someone needs to learn how to drive. :D

When the rest of the traffic is merging in advance, does it not strike you as idiotic that the select few carry on that little bit further, squeezing every inch out of the outside line they can, only causing more delay as they try to merge in.

Not at all, you carry on doing it your way and queue though, it makes like a lot easier/quicker for those who know how to drive and have an empty lane to use. ;)

no, thats the way the road was designed. If they wanted you all out of lane 2, 200 yards earlier, they would have removed the lane 200 yards earlier.

Plus it wouldnt cause more delay as they try to merge in, if muppets in lane 1 didnt block them. Merge in turn and it flows (relatively speaking), lane1ers blocking just causes everyone to stop. it should go 1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2, etc.... not 1,1,1,1,1,2,2,1,2,1,2,2,2,1.

No not stupid at all people are
a) sposed to make use of the road available, its there for a reason
b) politely allow people to merge

The reason this fails in some people merge in a mile too early then think OMFG everyone is stealing my place in the line and idiotically try to stop people merging, the real issue is that they merged way too early

How on earth do you get people trying to start a traffic light GP with a 10 year old Volvo Estate?

Do you find you win lots? Hint: This is because nobody else can be bothered to 'race' you :p

By looking at them and revving my engine a bit, they always think 'ah estates are slow' even then they are driving 1.4l golfs or their mothers kia or an old astra.

Though even old farts sometimes join me, but they often win as they take me on with silly things like 300 bhp suv's or similar.

But young people will very often bite.

I'm not talking a mile down the road, I'm talking 20 meters.

I think I'd just let you 'speed' off into the distance and let you pretend you beat me, when in fact I couldn't be arsed to race a kid in an Estate.

Had someone overtake me on a roundabout this morning, not a problem as there is 2 lanes leading up to it and 2 lanes, dropping into 1 on leaving it. He had a kid in the front seat so let him carry on, he then blasted up the road, overtook a car even though the road markings say not to. Got to the traffic lights and the car he overtook is wanting to turn left, so at this point he is now directly ahead of me. Lights turn green and the traffic moves, after the next roundabout he overtakes a white van and shoots off. The van turns off so again he is no further ahead. 500 yards later he turns off so has managed to save himself about 3 seconds of driving by driving like a loon.

You drive a slow fiesta though so even if you tried I'd 'speed' of in the distance :p:D.

I never understood the ''it's an estate'' people either, estates are meant to be slow? I'd sooner think that about hatchbacks.

Erm ***

My commute involves the roundabout at Jct 31 of the M1/A57, people will queue down the A57 onto the roundabout and down the A57 the other side instead of using the second lane, then when I drive passed them and pull in it is all too regular that someone will get annoyed. You can see them jockeying for position, getting as close to the car in front as possible.

Back OT, as a nation we do seem to be getting more aggressive on the roads, I try to stay as chilled as possible, be as courteous as possible and ignore the aggression of other road users.

Nail. Head.

I don't have a problem with being overtaken, except when I'm doing 60 on an NSL road, and for some reason I've got a queue of people up my arse, all of which decide to overtake me and give me certain hand gestures for good measure. All this on a road notorious for speed traps.

If you want to break the law, that's fine, just don't expect me to.

I must say, another thing that annoys me is people who seem to enjoy filling up the ending lane where two lanes filter into one.

I was heading into Hindhead the other week (south bound), I pull into single file traffic as it wasn't that busy and there was plenty of time - then people continue to creep up the outside to get 20 meters in front - something I'm convinced is half the problem - having a queue is one thing, having a queue that is having to let stationary cars in the outside lane filter in is going to be worse than twice as slow!

I know exactly which junction you mean (A3) and whenever I drive southbound through there, if the right lane is empty I'll zip down it, as you should. It is, after all, a straight on as well as right-turn lane. I'll then merge nicely. It does ease congestion. I don't know what it is with the British and queuing, I really don't  People take offense to you making safe, legal progress. Argh!

Can't say I can recall anyone ever attempting to overtake me on a single carriageway, as I'll always be making as good an amount of progress as possible. If someone does wish to, however, I ain't gonna stop them :)

People are, in the main, cretins. If you apply this FACT to every action you take you will understand why people flash their lights when you dare to overtake.

What engine is in your Volvo out of interest? ...I bet it isn't 'much' faster than Janesy's Fiesta :p

Hmmmm, you're right, I thought he had a 1.25 but until we get to the higher speeds the 1.4 fiesta will probably be faster, from 60-120 mph he wouldn't stand a chance though :p.

I have the 2.0 140 ps engine...

How often do you race people from 60 to 120mph?

Actually, don't answer that.

I pretty much always race 0-90 mph before I start to hold off a bit. Sometimes they are stubborn and then proceed to overtake me at even higher speeds a couple of seconds after though.
Not too long ago it was 0-120 mph against a brand new audi A4 on a dual lane motorway sliproad.

At night traffic light gp's don't end at the speed limit, but at far higher speeds...
He might have ( scrap that: he has) the advantage in first gear, perhaps even in second, but once we get to third...

But I guess you're right, if not going to silly high speeds, he will probably win, his ( 1.4 Zetec???) 0-62 time is extremely close to mine.
