In the process of getting a mortgage sorted and we've had some advice and been told to go with Accord Mortgage as their rates are good at the moment. I had to contact my previous mortgage advisor as we are changing and she said she's never heard of them and she's been doing mortgages for 6 years. She then called me back 5 minutes later and advised me that they can sometimes charge you in excess of £2k fee's? Our new mortgage advisor told us that the fee's are £995 which is the going rate.

Checked Accord Mortgage online and read some mixed reviews.

Anyone used or heard good/bad things about these?

Thanks :)

Used them for two years before switching again like I do every two years. I had no issues and the set up fees will be arranged with your advisor. She's not a good advisor if she has never heard of them.

If your advisor has said the fees are £995 thats is what they will be.

New advisor showed me the key facts that Accord are offering and went through it with me so I can only guess that my old advisor is gutted that we chose someone else to setup our mortgage with? I don't really care as long as I'm saving money. Old advisor I didn't really trust and she wanted to use her solicitors and wanted us to take life insurance even though she told me and my partner that she's not on commission.... Our new one came to my home last night and told me exactly how she's making money and how much. Straight forward, to the point! Simple.

Since I've never even looked at getting a mortgage, I'm wondering why you'd pay an advisor and then a mortgage broker £1k on top?

Unless your time is very valuable, surely you could spend a week solid doing everything and save a couple of grand?

edit:

Apparently Accord mortgages use this building society

You don't pay the advisor, the bank does.

Going through the process myself at the moment and to be honest, it is such a minefield and a soul destroying process I would be happy to get someone else to do it for a fee.

Fair enough. I'm surprised its such a complicated process. I would have thought banks would be providing the service for free in order to get customers. Perhaps I'm overestimating the competition in the market.

Oh okay. A shame they don't give that to you as a discount instead.

Speaking to a few brokers the general consensus is that demand is outstripping supply, so banks can be quite picky and choosy really.

If it's too much hard work they don't seem that interested..
