Afternoon Crash..

I'd have both, as part of a balanced diet :) although i'd probably have something less mayo based.

Indeed. Guys need 2,500 calories a day according the government. Not providing your body with enough energy will cause it to store energy for "when it needs it"

I'm sure the body builders around here will exlain the need to eat and drink regularly to keep the body ticking over

Your body goes into starvation mode, storing what energy it has as fat so that it can be held onto as long as possible. A body builder I knew ate every 3 hours or so, to prevent fat conversion.

The problem with fat as an energy source, is it's not efficent.

Eating enough, regularly, may help the OP from feeling sleepy

I often get a crash if I have too much sugar at lunch. Something like a baked potato will give a nice steady energy release throughout the afternoon.

The baguette and the fruit wouldn't fill me up at all!

I found eating regularly helped me at uni, especially on them long nights, an extra meal would often see me through and provided a much better boost than say red bull.

On that note it's lunch time :)

Indeed. But they don't need to be huge meals, more like substantial snacks - nothing crap though. :)

How old are you? When I was at uni I was exactly like this. Finish morning lectures, go back to halls, have some lunch. And then conk out. A mate finished and came back just after I finished lunch I tried to stay and be sociable. But I was struggling to stay awake.

It might be just a routine your body has got used to.

But that Bupa advert did use someone who felt unusually tired as their theme. If your young and healthy I wouldn't worry about it.

If you are worried just go see a doctor?

On the days you dont have class do u still feel tired at the same time of the day?

I'm not worried, it's just inconvenient and makes me lazy in the mornings and I get to my lessons at between 9 and 9:30.

I'm pretty healthy I cycle 5 days a week with usually averaging about 50 miles each of those days. I'm on a pretty crab heavy diet I think too.

When I am on a bike ride, of say 80 miles on a sunday, I don't get sleepy in the afternoon, but I do have a pretty visible performance drop where I was beating everybody up the hills I end up lagging at the back in the afternoon, don't know if this could be due to this "afternoon crash"?

I had 2 punnets of fruit at college today, so low on carbs I guess? And I still fell asleep. Ended up eating 2 mars bars in one go, that slightly helped, but not worth the bother as they made me feel sick.

Many people have a temporary drop in alertness in the early afternoon, commonly known as the "post-lunch dip." While a large meal can make a person feel sleepy, the post-lunch dip is mostly an effect of the biological clock. People naturally feel most sleepy (have the greatest "drive for sleep") at two times of the day about 12 hours apart—for example, at 2:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. At those two times, the body clock "kicks in." At about 2 p.m. (14:00), it overrides the homeostatic buildup of sleep debt, allowing several more hours of wakefulness. At about 2 a.m. (02:00), with the daily sleep debt paid off, it "kicks in" again to ensure a few more hours of sleep.

Learn about this in Psychology at A-Level.
Used to have Psych periods 5/6 on a Friday and our teacher generally tried to set this as a "bugger-all" lesson for this reason (also it's the end of the week and no-one wants to work).

I have a problem with tiredness/drowsiness in the afternoons too, prescribed amphetamine which takes care of that problem now though. :)

Well this morning I had beans on toast, but usually I have muesli. I have between 7 and a half hours sleep and 9 hours.

You could be oversleeping, I'm starting to think I oversleep which is why I have a bad sleeping pattern/a lot of tiredness.

Maybe try cutting back the sleeping hours for a week? 5-6 hours a day?

my crash is about 4pm ,trouble is this is when im starting work and doing my cad drawings for the day ,come awake again abour 6pm

I'm fine some days and crap others.
Todays a good day, up at 5 this morning after 4 hours sleep, feeling fine, done 4 hours graft, just having a bit of a break, i'll do another couple of hours, have a shower and go to college. And I know tonight i'll be up until about 2-3 in the morning wide awake.

Some days i'll wake up after a good 6-10 hours sleep, feel like crap the entire day, barely staying awake. And it'll hit a massive slump in the afternoon where i'm actually nodding off, feel like death about 2 oclock on these days.

Well I have between 7 and a half hours sleep and 9, I'd not think I'd need more than that? I know if I sleep for 10-12 hours I wake up with headaches and feeling pretty crap too.
