Motherboard Driver Installation (is it important?)

I have just put together a new system and have installed Windows 7, everything is working fine but would it be worthwhile actually installing the sata drivers, the audio drivers and the assortment of other utilities that come with the motherboard?

I have installed the Graphics Card drivers obviously, it didn't seem worthwhile installing the other ones I mentioned because everything is working.

To get the maximum speed and functionality of the parts its best to use the proper drivers from the manufacturer of the parts, rather than rely on the generic microsoft ones.

The generic ones do seem to work fine most of the time, but yeah as Stulid said it's usually best to grab the manufacturers drivers. Download from the manufacturers website rather than using the CD to make sure you have the most up to date versions.

The only driver's I downloaded were for my sound and graphics card. Couldn't find any chipset drivers for my board so either Asus are not releasing any or they are already inbuilt into Windows 7.

As with most things in life, when it gets too old people don't care anymore.

I wonder how long I can expect any updates for my board for.

Hi Ch3m1c4L thanks for the links. The Asus download page only offers me the 'Intel Chipset Inf Update Program' under Chipset downloads and this doesn't appear to do much other than tell Device manager my exact chipset type.

oh, well, errr, what you have to do right is...errrr....use the cd that came with your board?

For mine, I just get the nvidia driver, and i can do this from asus or nvidia. I can get drivers for really old chipsets as well, so I guess because its an intel chipset, that maybe they are just standard drivers like you said.

lol ! Thanks for your help but. The driver disk is only suitable for Windows XP and Windows Vista and refuses to run under Win 7 x64 but it's no biggie. My system is running stable so im happy :)

jsut to make sure, they arent showing up in optional updates on windows update are they? Thats where all my driver updates show up, well I say all, only my SiL raid card and my chipset/graphics drivers have updated since I've had win7 so meh.

You just need to download and install the latest inf update from Intel

click here for the latest version dated 12/22/2009

Asus website has always been pretty shocking for both the latest drivers and download speeds.
