Looking at booking a holiday with the girlfriend and Faro has popped up. Heard 'of' the Algarve and the area looks lovely but don't really know a huge deal about it, what there is to do, what kind of holiday it is etc (I'm imagining very relaxed and cultural).

I'm just researching onto hotels/apartments/B&Bs and as Faro as an actual place looks tiny I'm assuming it's not always best to actually stay there.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to stay, what to look for, what to do, etc. Anything would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance :).

PS. Our budget is... budget :). The only reason we're looking at Faro is because it's £32 return each incl. taxes.

Sod Faro.

Go to Lagos - it's about 40ish miles west of Faro. I think there's even buses which go from Faro there.

Rising **** youth hostel isn't bad if you're after a hostelish accommodation there. Good restaurants/beaches/nightlife too. I can recommend the No Patio restaurant (hope it's still in business) - awesome food at pretty reasonable prices.

It's £32 for a reason.

What do you mean by that?

It's actually loads of fun down there. Much like what the OP mentioned; chilled out and cultural with loads to do to keep you entertained. But go to Lagos if you can its great fun with decent surf around if you are into that.

Because it's with Ryanair? All their flights are £40 return for our dates at the moment, and I went to Malta last year for £10 return. Or are you insinuating that all of Europe is rubbish?

Surf's not my thing I'm afraid. Nice walks, beaches, swimming, museums, old churches, quirky villages and cafes, vineyards... that's the kind of thing I'm expecting and like the idea of!

Again, why Lagos (other than the surf)?
