Hi folks,

I have an eBay auction set to end tomorrow for a laptop. I am getting offers outside of eBay to end the auction and recieve payment direct so I don't get stung for fees etc. I am a bit naive with eBay so don't know the implications of this, would I lose any protection on the sale if I do it outside of eBay? What is the best way to accept cash? Bank transfer?

Does anyone have any experence of ending an auction and taking payment outside of eBay?

Yes you lose protection from eBay.

Do not post without confirmed funds.
Do not meet up alone to transfer the deal.
Do not allow them to have control of goods before payment.
Check the cash is real.

Laptops. mobiles etc are high value items and worth scamming for.

If in doubt, pull out! :D

99/100 offers to pay outside of ebay/paypal = scam

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration but I understand why this is the common consensus. Be very wary of ending a deal outside of eBay, you are sacrificing what little protection you have by doing this.

I have offered to pay for things outside of eBay/requested to have an auction ended early though (and I'm not a scammer!) purely because I've been impatient :p

Same, if the seller's feedback is pretty decent I've even offered to go via the bank transfer route in order to allow them to avoid fees.

the buyer has good feedback but I think bank transfer would
be best. Anyone else?
