Hi guys,

Been looking around for a nice pair of headphones to go with my ipod (iPhone actually) and from previous experience I have found Sennheiser to be the best for the money.

I'm looking to spend around £40 and am looking at the Sennheiser CX400 II's, I listen to rock/alternative so bass isn't a huge deal but must still be there.

They must be black and inner ear/canal ones.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any input.

Here's a nice little comparison by someone on head fi forums.

I have soundmagic pl30 and beta brainwavz pro both £15 delivered from mp4nation very nice phones actually.
I used to own crossroads mylarone x3i and they were fantastic and the Bijou 3 are the successor to these can get those for £37.

All just opinion though for example he rates my beta brainwavz pro higher than mylarone x3 and personally I think the mylarone x3 are better.

You cant go wrong for beta brainwavz pro for £15 delivered though.Even better if you invested in a FiiO E5 portable amp to compliment also £15 delivered from uk.

If you got the beta brainwavz pro + E5 amp from mp4nation would cost you £24 delivered which is a ridiculously awesome bargain only snag is takes 2 weeks delivery.

I like the soundmagic but getting a seal is hard as they aren't straight in buds and the build quality is not on the same level as the brainwavz.
If this were my money I'd get the e5 amp and beta brainwavz pro £24 spent for probably on a par of £100+ sound.

I'm no expert but I've got these and they sound good to me:)

They also do one with a microphone for iphones...

Just had a look at these, looks very complete. I'd perhaps go for the built in mic ones though. In terms of sound quality how would you rate them? Bass strong enough...Comfortable?

In fact I insist that you get the beta brainwavz pro + E5 amp for £24 delivered it's just too good to pass up really.

Nice idea, but I'd be looking to keep everything simple, I'm pretty sure the amp would reduce battery life considerably? Bearing in mind its my iPhone I'm using these on and I still want to have battery left after a couple of an hours blast of tunes.

I'm not really a huge audiophile, I can tell the difference between good and bad sounding but as long as I've got a crisp and clear spectrum then I'm happy.

I know its cheaper than what I'm looking to spend and is a great deal but to me its overkill (Without the cost) if you get what I mean?

e5 amp uses it's own inbuilt rechargable (via usb) battery.

Yea sorry I didn't see the iphone bit no idea what is best for those as you'd probably want mic phones with volume control on the lead ?

Not fussed hugely about controls/mic but would be a bonus. Mainly looking for something nice looking/durable and high quality on the sound front (No lack in highs/mids/bass)

Perhaps I shall pickup the E5 amp to go with whatever I decide anyway!

depends if you can be bothered lugging an e5 around really but it's a great little amp pretty tiny

I'd rate them high, but then it's the most money I've ever spent on head phones.

I would describe them as... punchy! If that means anything! Some tracks on my ipod really pop (generally newly released stuff), I guess that's down to how they've been recorded. All sound good though.

One slight niggle, the cables are sheathed in that fabricy sstuff so if they brush against clothes/each other the sound can get transmitted up to you. It's not that bad though, and I guess it's the same for many similar headphones.

They're comfortable, come with a few different sizes to fit your ears, and come with a little pouch to put them in as well as a bit of plastic you can wind them round.

How long have you had them? And are they the new revision? I've done some digging up and seems to have a high failure rate with the first revision.

The first revision have a straight jack (Metal covered) and the newer revisions have a rubberized offset jack.

I do listen to a lot of rock and I know its not great to have heavy bass but if needs be I'll just tweak the EQ.

Also...What colour did you go for? Chrome looks nice :D

I've had them a couple of years. They're the first revision. No problems yet but yes, the jack is a bit annoying. The new one looks more sensible.

Mine are blueish

Good stuff, I've ordered some Chrome ones of those (With the additional iPhone/iPod features.)

Thanks for the replies.
