As some of you may know about this time last year I underwent an operation to remove my cancerous prostate using the da vinci robot.

Over the past year I've been recovering from the operation and the changes to my lifestyle and thought I was doing pretty well.

Anyway about 4 weeks ago my wife pointed out that my stomach looked bloated and I then admitted to her that I'd been feeling some deep stabbing pains over the previous month or so.

I went to see my GP the following day and he confirmed that I had an incisinal hernia. Basically where they had cut me open to insert the camera, the muscles had torn and allowed my intestines to start pushing outwards.

So on Thursday afternoon I had an operation to repair the hernia. After an hour and a half the operation was completed and all was well.

I'm now 3 days down the line, back home, and signed off for a couple of weeks.

Now I was wondering if anyone here has had a hernia operation and if so how did you feel for the first week or so afterwards? I don't remeber the pain much after my prostate operation which was a lot more serious that this one, but i'm in a fair amount of pain right now :(

oh, and as always, go get a PSA check, it might save your life one day!!
 
I've never had any operations and certainly nothing as serious as that :eek:

I dont have anything more to add to your thread other than to wish you a speedy recovery :)

don't thinks this counts but I had my apendix out a month ago today, now that was painful.
1st week hurt a lot, after that it got much easier, 3 weeks off work and I'm almost 100%

Never had any major operation, well not in my adult life, it seems you have had more than your fair share! :(

Well i've had an MRI scan and i've been told that my knee's ride high and don't sit in the groove properly. I'm going for a CT can in 7 weeks and then (i've made my mind up already) going to have an operation.

First from the CT scan he's going to see where my mucles are connected to at the back of my shin (if its more to the left or right) he will move them central. He will then cut the top of my shin away so my knee can move down more and slot in. He will then use my hamstring to loop over my knee to stop it even more. He said there is about 90-100% it won't dislocate but i will be in pain for the rest of my life.

ill be off work for around 6 months

mate, that's mad. makes my ouch seem like nothing. hope it all works out for you :)
 
I had a Hernia repaired about 4 years ago and the pain of the op subsided after a week or so, up until then it felt like someone had kicked me in the nuts, even now it feels like I still have a lump but thats just the packing they put round the repair to stop it happening again.

I've not had a hernia operation but I have had my intestine laid out on a table...And I couldn't really get up for a good couple of days or walk 'upright' due to the pain in my stomach area...

It depends on where the incision was really...My mate had a hernia operation right above his crotch basically, and e was fine after a week or so really...whereas it took me a while before I could lift stuff proeprly again :)

but i am due to have my gall bladder our in april. anyone got any first hand experience?

Had a hernia op about a year ago. Moving about afterwards was obviously pretty painful. Just sitting around watching tv and getting up and down. When i did move about i did so very slowly and it really really tired me out. So yeah it did hurt for quite a while and was whacked out of my mind on various drugs! Worst part about it was the mix of Co-codamol ( which, as warned, makes you constipated ) and not eating any fibreous goods. EAT PRUNES!

my mum had her gall bladder out a few years ago, she's fine now, but it hurt big time when she had it done.

So you're going to be in pain for the rest of your life after this op??? :(

thats what the doc said

since my dislocation IF i walk in town which used to take me 15mins

now it takes me 30min as i walk a lot slower and beneeth my knee(s) its massive pain but both my knees have this pain (as they are both prone to dislocation)
