Ideas for a first car..

Helps if we knew how old you were, what kind of car you're after, and how much you have to spend on insurance (very important for a first car)

Sorry.. I should have said :p

I'm 17 and I'm looking for a spacious car with a good sized boot (futureproof - best way I can describe it) I don't want to have some old car that will not last me, I am looking for something that will last me through university.

In a nutshell, looking for:

- Space
- Speed
- Safety
- Insurability
- Decent re-sell value
- Different

Insurance wise - I can spend about £2700.

:)

^^ If only!

Insurance is almost always going to be larger for a first time male driver. Unless I get some piece of junk that'll probably break in a few months time and require me to shell out more cash.

Maybe i'm wrong? I don't know.

Just get a car that isn't stereotypically a "17 year old's wet dream" and you'll find that the insurance will probably be less than you think.

The mondeo suggestion above (whilst not possibly what you'd want from a car) would most likely lead to cheaper insurance than most 1.4-1.6 hatches, but with a 2.0 engine.

£2700 insurance budget?!?!

On average, most of my friends have insured for around £1500-£2000 with the odd few above £2k.

But what can I expect if I also want a car that will last? High insurance. :(

(Sorry for double post)

I am not wanting 'just' reliability.. That's the thing.. Ideally, I would like it to look semi-good.

Depends what you mean by semi-good. If you want 17 year old street cred, you're going to struggle (as per the civic!). The Mondeo is a relatively handsome car in the right trim/colour but you arent going to pull in one.

A focus would be a bit better in terms of coolness, but you'll get less for your money and may cost more to insure
