New 530D - Driven One Today

Have you avoided every pothole you have ever driven near? If you have, you're a better driver than the rest of the world, who haven't.

Of course not? But if I do hit one, I tend to attribute at least some of the blame to myself, rather than 50% to VW and 50% to British roads, especially if I was "fiddling with bloody sports button" at the time ;).

So how was the performance Housey ? It must feel incredibly slow after getting out of an RS4 previously ?

That's a bit like saying you should have been more careful when you walked down that alleyway and got stabbed!

What about a GS450h? Very comfortable and rapid - small boot due to the batteries though.

Considering how much better the e60 looks in M-Sport form (IMO), are you not tempted to wait until the F10 M-Sport is revealed Housey?

Not really bothered, the new one looks much nicer than the last one and I don't see the point in adding stiffer ride to a car I want to eat miles in. If I wanted a sporty model I'd wait for the M5

I can't help myself. A8 4.2 TDI Sport.
I know, I know, but…
You'll have a GT3 for the fun stuff, a luxury mile muncher for the dross. The 5 series is fantastically well rounded but for big miles an A8 is the better place to be imo, obviously at the expense of certain things the BMW will bring. I wouldn't have bothered mentioning it but I remember you liked them from the A8 thread:

Best looking of all of the big uns if you ask me with probably the best looking interior I have come across on anything. Drive OK too from what I remember.

The Audi comes under fire for being a bit too sporty in comparison to a S Class/7 series. Personally I think it's all about the settings but either way, whilst no GT3 down a B road, it's not the wallowy barge you'd expect (see the review for a better idea) It won’t set your ass on fire either but it surprised me initially. Steering leaves a little something to be desired.

45k will get you a 09, probably a 59 in a few months time with an awful lot of toys and a warranty. If I had to have one car to fulfill all my needs *and* with big mileage tacked on, I would be looking at a diesel F10 without a doubt. If I had a GT3 in the garage for everything else but big business miles I'd want something that absolutely excels at getting me there quietly, with pace and refreshed, plenty of toys and a big range. Anonymously handsome, an astonishing diesel engine with a well mated box, comfortable as hell, quick, impressive in the snow, built like an all-aluminium tank. Seats and their adjustability are what you expect from something like this. Car is bigger of course, but I've never had an issue with it, the extra 20cm is there though. It's been perfect since day one bar a bulb, consumables and servicing are what you expect...it's just been a hugely impressive package for myself and it's totally spoilt me in regards to what I expect from a mile muncher.

Hard to find the reviews as the 2010 A8 seems to have pushed them away, I have no idea who or what Motorbar is, but this review isn’t that far off the mark:

I don't think it would harm anything to take one out next time you're at your dealer, see what you think. I'm all over the place at the moment, up your way fairly soon I would have thought, I'll drop you a line.

The A8 is a good shout actually and I have been thinking of it but the issue I have is space. If I take an A8 I will most likely have to move a load of stuff out of my garage to fit it in, the 5 JUST fits. But, getting rid of an Audi to and Audi dealer on a nearly new car will be a better route than trying to bin an S-Line or RS4 via a BMW stealer. This now of course also puts me in 7 territory but again too big.

I think if you try one and come away as impressed as I think you will, moving some stuff around will be worth it. This is nice money for an A8, you are in facelift territory with an awful lot of toys. The 7 is a great car as well, but the 4.2 TDI steals the show for big miles with some semblance of economy and pace.

No, thats what the 7 Series is intended for. The 5 Series is an all rounder - as at home on the Motorway as it is on a twisting A road. Just because it has 4 doors doesn't mean you can't enjoy driving it.

Or more commonly seen used as Taxis in central London.
