Brum, Brum, Brum, Brum....
some starred expletive keyed my kay today, not massive but enough to pee me off.

now if i had a banger i would be ok...ish, but a 55 plate 5 Series and I aint happy

so been looking for a house alarm system and a cctv setup i can use to monitor the outside of the house, but looking into it, i have some conflicting options...!

i have an old brick house, and where i need to position things, a wired option is not suitable so it needs to be wireless.

I was looking at getting combined CCTV and burglar alarm system that sends email alerts, but i cant seem to find a system that links up together.

I could get a 2 camera setup and a separate alarm if thats better, but what and which

any ideas?

Unfortunately, it was probably keyed precisely because it's a nice car. They think "if I can't have a nice car, neither should this guy". Will it T-cut out, or did he really dig it in?

I don't really understand what you want by hooking a CCTV to an email alert system. Surely it will just spam you with emails every time it detects movement? Honestly, the mere presence of a camera might be enough to deter future keyings.

yeah i know, but i need a house alarm anyway, and i would only have the cctv working when i get home, so from 6:30.

I'm out most weekends doing stuff, so cars not there...

and i want to see who it is...

i think it will t-cut out, but i can see a bit of white so not that hopeful.

Death by firing squad is too good for them.

If it has gone through to the primer, it can usual be touched in and then polished.

The problem with CCTV is that it can still be tricky to see who has done it even if it caught on tape.

And even then if you did catch the person involved, lay a finger on them and it will be probably land you in jail :(

Have you annoyed anyone recently? Not that I condone it but someone I used to work with used to key cars that parked outside his garage (even though it had a no parking sign). Just saying there could be a motive so you might be able to narrow down your suspects.

no, but i had a hire car which was a BMW 59 plate, that had a blue pen mark on it in the morning. that came off (not permanent)

can only think its sour grapes, but from the pen mark , to a keying, in 1 week, and i have lived here for 6 years...

I looked into getting CCTV set up after my car was keyed outside our house. They must have used a screwdriver or something as it was pretty deep and went along 4 panels, meaning one side of the car had to be completely re-sprayed.

After talking to the police about what kind of quality would be required to get a conviction I got some quotes but decided against it as it ran into thousands.

Recently my wifes car was also vandalised outside our house. A ****ed up chav decided to put bricks through the windows of 8 cars on our street - luckily the police caught him.

Problem is we live on a road between a shop where the local chavs get their drink, and the park where they drink it, meaning they often pass by out of their heads looking for something to smash.

I also looked at some kind of CCTV but I'm sure I learned that its only usable as evidence if filming outside your property if you display warning notices.

I bought a couple of fake cameras off Ebay instead.

As a private person you have just as much right to view the outside of your property as somebody taking photographs.

OP, get yourself a motion light and a couple of discrete cameras. CCTV has been rendered useless since the invention of the hat (i don't tell people this when i sell them a system obviously!), so if they see the cameras they will just cover their faces.

No point tying it to the alarm, cameras would trigger it every time the trees moved.

can you get a hidden bullet cam a bit closer to the car?
if you want to know who it is then you don't necessarily want them to know they are being filmed ;)

spiders love cameras, they'll make a right mess of your email alert system :D

I've read my post and I can't see where I said we had no rights to put up CCCT equipment.
What I said was that it was inadmissible as evidence unless accompanied by a warning sign.

One would wonder as to the total absurdity of our laws if CCTV on private property (not public, not group or shared or club) would prevent it being used without a warning sign. What possible grounds could someone state? I keyed his car as I saw cameras and he didn't have a warning sign.

As for the chap who unfortunately lives between the chavs supplier and their drinking den (park), are you forced to park on the street? If not, if you can park in the drive, get a set of sturdy gates and a dog that barks lots, (not aggro dog, just lots of barking) they will vandalise next doors car instead.

Other thing you could do is phone the police and report a disturbance when none is occurring, the police will be guarenteed not to show up, so you'll have a window of between 30-45 minutes to don a ski-mask and nip down the park with a baseball bat and beat the living **** out of some chavs before returning home and making a witness statement on the nasty disturbance you heard but didn't see when the police eventually arrive after your second call. Do the same the next week, but invite all your m8s round for a session of chav-wack (a new 2012 sport).

My god, so cynical on a sunday morning, I fear I am lost to it now :(

From what I can gather it's OK to monitor your own space i.e front garden or drive but any monitoring of public spaces such as a pavement is an infringement of privacy laws.

The companies I contacted said we would have to put a sign up to film the public footpath.

I too have been thinking about putting up cameras, with a brand new car arriving soon i dont want some scroat keying it or worse without at least some evidence against them.

What kit do you recommend SB118?

Doesnt stop the google car though does it.

What about the possibility of a smaller/hidden cam/cctv inside the car that switches on when it detects movement within x metres distance.
