The House on Sunday will finally vote for the Democrats' comprehensive health care overhaul.

The House Rules Committee today laid out the terms for tomorrow's vote, most notably deciding to abandon the so-called "slaughter solution" and take two separate votes on the Senate health care bill and the reconciliation "fix it" bill. If the House passes both bills, President Obama will sign the Senate bill into law, and then the Senate will vote on the reconciliation bill.

Finally, finally, finally. I am really hoping that this goes through, and Obama is able to sign it into law. It's absolutely disgraceful that America is the only 'developed nation' with no form of national healthcare provision of any kind (now that South Africa is in the process of implementing one).

The worst outcome, as far as I'm concerned, would be that it doesn't go through because of the scaremongering that's going on by so many right-wing maniacs. Also, I'm exceptionally fond of Obama, and if this doesn't go through, then the chances of him being re-elected are going to disintegrate before his eyes, and given how utterly pathetic the Republican party have been performing for the past decade, that would not be a good thing.

It would be good if it does go through, but even then, there is still potential for it to be a disaster.

Obama has taken on the American Right which is very brave, but I've got a feeling he is doomed.

American's just don't think like we do this side of the pond.

American's just don't think like the rest of the developed world.

Fixed :)

I hope Obama is successful but I have a suspicion it won't get through. The Dems only just have the members to vote it through, thats if they fall in rank and file, which some wont unfortauntly.

As an example of both ultimate ownage and pure insanity, check this out:

It's scary that there are actually people, and fairly high profile people at that, that actually hold those opinions. The even more worrying thing is that these are people that are listened to and form a substantial bulk of opinion. I can't help thinking that our political standard is a hundred times higher over here, as such a person wouldn't be given the slightest sniff of a platform in the UK.

There's also probably too many who are 'funded' by the insurance companies...

Someone please tell me why so many Americans have a problem with this bill, I can't see it myself
It basically boils down to ignorance, and an ignorance of the the left-wing, in my opinion. America have never had any form of socialism or Fabianism in government, to ensure that vital public services are available to the hard working majority and not a select few (few still being quite a lot, in this case). So with that, the second any hint of social policy, people just go crazy. I was speaking to somebody from America the other day, I asked him what he thought of Obama and this was said:

"He's a socialist. Kill him, and everyone in his administration."

"How on Earth have you come to the conclusion that Obama is a socialist?!"

"He's taking my money and giving it to other people, that's socialism."

It's like exhibit A of the point I'm trying to make. America have no sense of social responsibility, and as a result, have created one of the largest under classes of any developed nation in the world.

So says you are American and break you arm do they have hospitals that you can just walk into and seen after a wait for free or do you need to have insurance or pay for it up front?

America is a strange place, all the middle class and working class wont want this to go through because they pay for medical care and they will see it as the poor are gaining something.

I put it down to the coldwar and all the propaganda against communism etc.
Yes, I'd definitely agree with that. There's not really any left wing in American politics, they have conservatives and liberals, obviously here that only constitutes the centre and the right (notice the lower case c and l). With that, any hint of anything left wing and they instantly think of Stalin or Mao, it's sickening.

Don't worry guys, China is already gearing up to kick American's butts. Just keep your eyes on any news regarding Taiwan. The next 50 years is going to see a huge shift of power in the world.

American's will then become much more left wing. They won't have a choice.

Remember that their healthcare does actually cover the real needy like children and elderly i believe, so not all bad, BUT wait for this, i am pretty sure that ex servicemen get free healthcare??

If so then does that start to make sense, how about that for an intensive to join the army...hmm

I don't think it will pass, they are only as powerful as their army.

I tell you what, knock them all you like, but watching that is a damn refershing change from the usual UK politicos never answering a straight question with a straight bloody answer. I think that is a great representation of the fraustration so many people feel when watching crappy debates.
