Couple of questions please chaps as I am sure something is a miss.

I currently have BT broadband the package that is unlimited and is costing £25 a month . This is done through a Black BT home hub with the phone on it.

1.At best I have only seen a dowload speed of 350/KB per second but more of an average of 280/KB per second , althought BT assure me that my home should have a speed of upto 500/KB per second when I have phoned tehm up and tehy tested the line for me ,

The above being said the router is in the conservatory and connected by approximatley 20 yards of phone cable , will this have an effect on speed ?

2. Most of my usage is gaming and I feel I am getting huge packet loss and am at a disadvantage with the lack of speed against some players , BFBC2 is constant disconecting me from a game and Left for Dead 2 just consatntly resets my router .

Anyone have any solutions other than change my ISP , wich I am happy to do if need be ?

Would a new router be a better option placed nearer to the phone connection box into the house or is my 20 yard phone line sufficent ?

I had the older version of the bt home hub and my download speed was fine, i would get 800kbs download which is about right for a 8mb connection.

The reason i changed my hub because it was bad for console games and opening ports on and stuff like that.

So what i am saying your current router should be fine for your download speeds and such, i would suggest it is a problem with your set up or line rather then the router. I changed mine for a better router and i noticed no gain in speeds, ping and download.

If you have a long baordband cable going from your boardand socket to your hub that can effect speeds greatly.

You could also try buying a new plate for your phone line which makes your phone line and boardband line seprate elimnating the use of the fliters, there about 10-20 pounds and can reduce the interferance on your line. I cant remeber the proper name of them. I know bt sell them you might even be able to blag them for one for free if you say your line isnt preforming how it should blah blah.

And last thing if your line is stable i.e no discconections or anything you can ring bt and ask them to change you connection to fast path (assuming its not), it can half your pings in some games and servers. Its free it takes a quick phone call only takes about a week or so for them to do it.
