Dyson DC08 turbo brush less than turbo

Hi all

I have a Dyson DC08 vacuum cleaner with a turbo brush head (a one much like you get in an upright cleaner). The problem is, the turbo brush now spins very weakly, and if you are trying to vacuum a carpetted floor, it just doesn't spin at all. This problem did occur a few years ago with it, but it just went away on its own. Now that I have a cat, it is even more important to have a turbo brush that works properly as the hairs get ingrained into the carpet! I have cleaned all parts of the cleaner, and I've opened and inspected the turbo brush head for anything obvious that might be stopping it from spinning properly. I don't think the hoover has actually lost suction, it just isn't spinning the brush as well as it used to.

Does anyone have any advice as to what might be the problem? I have a feeling this could be a fairly prominent issue with Dyson cylinder cleaners as my parent's went this way too.

Many thanks

Michael.

that's why i refuse to use dyson vacuums, as great as they are that you don't need a bag, they break far too easily.

if it's a cylinder vacuum can you not buy another turbo head for it?

have you tested the suction by taking off the head and seeing how well it sucks? you may find it's lost a lot of it's suction which is what powers the turbo head so it no longer spins.

Hi, thanks for that. I have emailed Dyson to ensure that if a replacement turbine head doesn't fix the problem that I can send it back for a refund, before I go ahead and order. I don't think the suction of the cleaner is affected - and like I said, it has done this before a few years ago, and magically corrected itself, so I think whatever issue it was back then, is the same again now.

If a new turbine head doesn't fit the problem, it may be time to look for a new vacuum cleaner. I'm tempted towards a Miele cat & dog cleaner, but I'm concerned at the cost of upkeep with bags.

Dyson vacuums suck.

They do, that's why I like my DC14 animal - it sucks good. It's fantastic for getting the cat hair out of carpet/sofas etc. and I've given it a hell of a lot of abuse over the years sucking up building/decorating waste and connecting it to my power tools.

I also now have a Henry in the garage, another good machine but good at different things (and now my power tool vacuum as I didn't want to keep using the DC14).

Have you tried taking it apart and cleaning it?

We have the upright DC08 which has a removable base plate, you use a coin to unlock 3 catches and you have access to the brush bar. After a while the brush picks up hair and loose threads which coil around the ends near the bearings causing a lot of friction, I imagine it would be a bigger problem on the separate brush as it is air powered and not directly belt driven. on the upright it is just a case of getting a pair of scissors and removing the build up of hair/threads and it works fine again.

I've tried cleaning it, yes. The mechanism that makes the brush bar spin is enclosed so I'm not entirely sure if I can get to it to clean it out.

Do yourself a favour and buy a miele or sebo, i just got the parents to buy a sebo and it's a fantastic bit of kit.
