I'm starting to think about a replacement for my Q7 and it's proving more difficult than I thought.

Here are the requirements:-

  1. Spacious
  2. Comfortable
  3. Good boot capacity
  4. Long load area for skis
  5. Fast
  6. 4 wheel drive
The Audi RS6 Avant might fit the bill but it isn't exactly good value and depreciation is fierce. It's also a bit "normal" looking and I'm not sure I need that much performance. I have another car for that ;)

Last night I starting thinking about the Porsche Panamera. I've always dismissed this car as a bloated 911, but looking past the emotion it does seem to tick all the boxes. The 4S with 400BHP is plenty fast enough and will still perform the 0-60 dash is 5 seconds (4.8 seconds with the Sports Chrono package).

I'd be interested in considered opinions :)

Well I like Porsche but this doesn't work for me and I was sitting in one yesterday having a fiddle. Quite a big old bus and probably looks a bit better in the flesh than the pictures and it's all about the colours and wheels really. My local OPC has 2 in the showroom, one in grey with crappy wheels and one in black with bigger wheels and the black cars looks much nicer, though nice is relative. Not idea what it's like to drive but probably ticks all the boxes if you can close your eyes.

Had a sit in one at the OPC and was very impressed, may not be the best looking car in the world on the ouside but it feels very special when you sit in one, been trying to talk my brother into getting one

Nope. Q7 destroys it on all levels.

Afraid I disagree with you there, but well never change each others opinion so no point arguing.

Quattroporte? Does come in a 4WD variant I believe, though if you're planning any serious off roading probably not a good idea.

I like it:) Get one, I want to see pictures. I can't imagine a more comfortable way to cruise around at speed. How many cars do you have? Weren't you getting an S3? Or is that too small for what you want (I'm guessing cross Europe tours to amazing skiing destinations... Very jealous!)

We had an RR Sport before the Q7 so have first hand experience. The Q7 is such a superior vehicle in every way. It only has 1 problem - it's HUGE.

Non-Sport RR is far too rolly and slow although a great off-road tool.

Eh? Care to explain why?

The RR is generally considered the finest car in its class and perhaps the finest, most complete car on sale today. The Q7 on the other hand is a rather ghastly, vulgar thing.

To say the Q7 destrpys the RR on 'all levels' is IMO beyond ridiculous.

I've owned both.

Q7 destroys the RR on comfort, technology, build-quality, reliability and performance (supercharged fuel-drinker excepted). It's like stepping out of a Honda and into a Bentley.
