Porsche Panamera

Afraid I disagree with you there, but well never change each others opinion so no point arguing.

Unless you're off roading, I think the Q7 is better, it has more interior space, can fit 7 WITH some luggage, and has a nicer, if a little sportier ride.

Still vote new Cayenne :)

Aye, the RR Sport isn't a big car inside. Passenger and boot space are substantially smaller than the Q7.

Is it an option to get another Q7? Seems like its the car to beat. I know that's the boring option but if it ain't broke. :p

Edit: The Porsche looks ace.

I absolutely agree about the Sport and the Q7, however the Normal RR vs the Q7 I think is a different matter.

What about the Quattroporte Spie? You never commented

RR tbh. Not the garish RRS.

I'd lump the Q7 in with the Discovery4, Toureg and normal ML's. Up from that you have the RR, Cayenne, GL's/ML's w/ big lumps etc.

Too expensive?

Brabus G V12 S Biturbo

Brabus G V12 S Biturbo - the world's most powerful off-roader - is built by hand based on the latest Mercedes G-Class. The exclusive five-door is powered by a Brabus SV12 S displacement engine. Like all special models of Brabus - recognized by the German Vehicle Registration Agency as a vehicle manufacturer - the Brabus Mercedes-Benz G-Class V12 S Biturbo comes with a comprehensive luxury package. The ultra-powerful 4x4 starts at 379,000 Euros.

The Brabus SV12 S engine is based on the V12 Biturbo engine from the latest Mercedes S 600. Before being implanted in the engine bay of the G-Class, displacement of the three-valve engine is increased from 5.5 to 6.3 liters (336 to 384 cubic inches) using a special crankshaft with longer stroke, larger cylinders and larger bore. In addition, the cylinder heads are re-machined and fitted with special camshafts.

The engine peripherals were upgraded with larger turbochargers, an optimized intercooling system and a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts. The exahust was custom-developed for the G-Class and features dual chrome-plated tailpipes that exit in front of the rear wheels on the left and right side. New precision mapping for the engine electronics coordinate the perfect interaction of all new components. The results are an exemplary smooth-running engine and maximum power yield while meeting the strict limits set by the EURO IV emission norm.

Am I missing something or does the £72,535 (+extras) RR Vogue SE only have a 3.6L TDI engine that does 0-60 in 8.6 seconds?

If so it fails to meet my basic requirements criteria.

In a car of this type (or arguably, any type) the 0 - 60 time is irrelevant. The TDV8 engine is very good indeed and more than enough to shift a RR along at a decent pace. How fast are you looking to go?

You want the Autobiography V8 SC @ £82K

Again, the A8 fits everything you asked for except outright pace compared to the Porsche, but far better economy, if you are going to dismiss the new RR Sport. The ML AMG is quick, 4wd etc etc but not sure just how much room you want.

At least as fast as I go now in my V8 TDI Q7 which is around 0-60 in 6.4 seconds.

Yep, the A8 is lovely. No S8 yet though. When that arrives it will be a serious contender.

Are you buying in Europe for LHD?
I think some of the S-class Mercedes come with 4WD in some countries.

The awd stipulation means you lose the Rapide and the Quattroporte S, the obvious contenders, so you'll have to compromise somewhere in consideration.

If comfort is one of the main criteria, and the S8 sticks to it's roots, it won't be great in comparison to the A8. It's a fairly ridiculous car all things considered. The 2010 A8 diesel is 5.5sec and 37mpg and the Dynamic mode is pretty much adequate for pressing on. Ski's are catered for with the load through and waterproof bag that comes attached.

You'd be missing a trick if you don't look at the new RR Sport I reckon, it's a seriously nice bit of kit and very well sorted by all accounts.

I wouldn't buy another RR Sport and they are not spacious enough.

A8 4.2TDI would fit the bill. In fact I test drove one before I bought the Q7 and it sold me on the fab 4.2TDI engine.

If your dismissing the LR range then why not just buy another Q7? maybe the V12?

Just cant see how it measures up to a Range Rover. I've got an A6 which is the same interior pretty much as a Q7 and its a nice place to be, but its completely outclassed by the Range Rover (again not the sport which is only suitable for pimps and drug dealers :) )
