The 5850 MSRP at launch was $259. ever wonder why its £220-250? its not AMD. its the retailers. it really is ridiculously overpriced.

AMD did put the price up, there are still supply issues, and Nvidia dont have a comparible product out (or any product at all, 260-295GTX's are pretty much sold out). So Retailers can charge whatever they wish, and if people need a card, they will pay.

still, mid-range cards shouldn't cost what we used to pay for high-end a few years ago. just puts more ppl off pc gaming and onto consoles.

I was looking at upgrading to a 5850 from an 8800gts 512 but at the prices right now I've decided to hold off. Once they come down to about 160 pounds I will consider it.

I would n't class the 5850 as a high end card either , more mid-high.

If the 5850's drops to £160 Id be tempted to get 2! But I think the 5850's will pretty much hold there prices, they've actually gone up by £20 since release. Maybe if fermi is the mutts nutts and well priced..but that a maybe of gigantism proportions!
