The Right to Bear Arms

Considering I don't see the need for anyone to have them I don't have an issue with that.

how is that relevant to the decision of whether the government should ban something? It is for the state to justify restrictions on the population based on evidence of necessity for the legislation...

At least, that's how it is supposed to work in a free society, admittedly the UK is far from free and people have been conditioned to accept it...

:confused:If you unbanned guns here you would have to be mad

What sane reason would you have for it? Before you know it you would have people who commit crimes with no weapons, carrying arms. How the hell would that be a good thing.

America is stuck with violence in its society as its a society that was born out of violence. Its at its very core, and the right to bear arms reflects this. It will never be cured.

Whilst I agree with Dolph, it surely was the initial acceptance of arms that got them in to the way of life they have now....ie gun crimes are rife....If they had implemented the sort of gun control that they have now earlier then surely they wouldn't have the problems they have now.
Let us not forget that the UK has been heavily populated for far longer than the U S yet due to the fact that guns etc are outlawed here we don't have as much of a problem as they do over there where guns were accepted as a way of life.
Had there been the firearm restrictions over there that we have over here then surely their problems would not have escalated.

There are plenty of countries without heavy restrictions on firearms that do not have these problems, so I'd disagree with that.

Furthermore the right to bear arms is originally based on UK law and tradition... Gun controls in the UK started in 1903.

I wouldn't personally want the responsibility of owning a firearm. If it got into the wrong hands or if I used it in error, the guilt would be overwhelming.

Of course I'd love to be able to plink away at passing cars, but I realise that it just isn't worth making guns legal if there isn't any real need for them.

And like Adz says, with a weapon comes responsibility, and I wouldn't want that.

Depends where you stab them.

The only law I covet of our American friends is the right to defend your home.

An Englishman's home is his castle!

Yup this is what brought me to think about it. In my opinion Britain is a crazyass socialist country that gives too many rights to criminals. I absolutely believe in the death penalty and 90%+ of British people seem to value the offender more than the victim!

And you get in trouble for defending your home and family. commie fools tbh

This is the most American post I've ever read.
- OMG SOCIALISTS!
- OMG COMMUNISTS!
- DEATH PENALTY HOORAH!
- BRITISH PEOPLE LOVE CRIMINALS

:confused:If you unbanned guns here you would have to be mad

Why ?

The banning of handguns in this country was a kneejerk reaction to try and eliminate a problem that was not really there in the firstplace namely people who legally own them committing criminal acts.

Banning them has done nothing whatsover to curtail armed crime in this country.

I cannot own a 9mm handgun in the UK but I can legally obtain a small .22 semi-automatic carbine of which I can do equal damage and more.

I can also legally buy a 7.62 bolt action, military spec bolt action rifle that can quite easily take someone's head off at 800 metres.

While undoubtedly strict, UK gun law is flawed to say the least.

It's also truth.

WOW!

I SAY ITS TRUTH SO IT MAKES IT THE TRUTH!

Jesus, when did this crap argument creep into OcUK? Its getting old.

The british public does not value criminals over offenders.

The bulger case is a glaring example, but that will not fit in with your supposed 'facts'.

Gun laws everywere are flawed by the fact that the folks that commit gun crime don't give a **** what the law is anyway

Uk gun law may not be water tight but I would much rather it than unbanning guns.

What would be the advantage of unbanning them be Von Smallhausen? I fail to see the advantages.
