NVIDIA Price drops

it still amazes me how much second hand gtx's still go for on the 'bay'

...and yet, the ati cards are going for a lot less even when its nVidia counterpart is going for a lot more. In some cases, the lesser performaing nvidia card is getting a heck of a lot more!

just goes to show most people out there are confused by the naming conventions adopted by ati/nvidia and really don't know what they're buying!

Yea I know.

Also, low-end graphic card with 512MB/1GB (cheap) DDR2 memory get marketed as gaming card...I recalled seeing an advert in Custom PC where ATI's misleading advertisement of HD5450 as gaming card, emphasizing on the dx11 support and Eyefinity lol

People that are not familiar with hardware WILL buy these cards with intent for gaming, as the features seem to tick all the right boxes for the requirement. And then they will see slideshows on the games they want to play, and left really upset and cry as they run back to their PS3/XBox 360 lol

Seriously, misleading marketing of graphic card can really cause damage to PC gaming and pushes newcomers away.

Even if there is a price drop it wont be more than 10% and considering the amount of stock left since all cards went EOL months ago there wont be many cards left

Thats what I was thinking. That being said OCUK snapped up some cheap 280GTX'x the other week that were worth the asking price. If they'd been 285GTX's I would have taken one.

Prices won't be heading south any time soon or by any significant margin IMHO. With the launch of the 5000 series coupled with the lack of competition has already provided Ati (and also nVidia) a very important business 'litmus' test as they now know what customers are prepared to pay.

In short, i believe we've reached a new high in terms of the prices you're expected to pay for a mid/high end card... and all this 'insanity' in an economic environment that's supposed to be 'tough'. yeah right.

Sadly, we as consumers only have ourselves to blame (actually not quite true.. it's just the people who have lots of money or those with just no sense). If only we could collectively 'speak' with our wallets and refuse to pay for a gfx card costing £500/£600.

Pretty sad time for PC enthusiasts if you ask me.

While we are at it lets **** off the price of a new ferrari, it is scandalous that I can't buy one ... ok, maybe that's not fair! Everyone can think of something they would like but should think twice about!!

If anyone is to blame it is the marketing folk who gee up the mob and the retailers who add their desire for their pound of flesh to the pile ... use common sense and buy wisely if you must have the latest, otherwise bide your time and your life will be no less fulfilled :D

And no it aint sad times at all as technology is clearly still evolving, just not at a price that suits you - I am curious as to why you believe that you have the right to something such as this? If you are saying that you deserve to be in a position to be able to buy the latest video card regardless of anything else or if we were discussing the price of water or energy that would be a different matter ....

When fermi comes out , how much can we expect the current range to reduce in price?

Price reductions will be proportional to the success of Fermi. If Fermi is a fast, reliable and attainable card at a reasonable price, then residual stocks of 200 Series cards will rapidly drop in value. If Fermi is a dud and/or unavailable at a stupid price then there'll still be a market for 285s, 295s and the like.

OcUK is offering a last batch of 295s at £440. If they're all sold before March 26th I'll be most surprised. ;)

I sold my 8 month old GTX 280 for £170 and I bought it for £230, Am I a good salesman or what! :D

Cry me a ****ing river. The main thing wrong with PC gaming is the ridiculous sense of entitlement so many people have.

Get a decent job? Stop spending money on other things?

Its nothing new to spend up to £600 for the latest graphics cards, the fact that since the 8 series, the top card have come in @ under £500 is new, so now they are going back up your complaining? Buying high end = you have to pay for R&D as well as the card. Since not many people buy it, they have to be priced higher, if it is actually overpriced e.g. performance is not the best on the market (or even close) then not nearly as many people with pay the premium to have a massive e-peen.

Mid range cards, ARE NOT the one step below the flagship (single gpu) card, and as such are not priced accordingly. Mid range cards are the x6xx or x7xx. then low end are all the ones below that.

If nothing else, these ARE cutting-edge cards. The company in question spends UP-FRONT millions and millions to develop them.

Taking FULL advantage of any "insanity" to sell as high as possible is what the shareholders/people who loan them money expect to be convinced that they should not dump them.
