Hello guys i'm kinda new to the forum :) have been buying from OCuk through internet for quite some time now :)

My "problem" is the following :

I have a setup which includes asus sticker 2 extreeme mobo;6 gig ddr3 mem; Q6600 processor (G0 stepping);9800gtx (i know shame :P ). The Q6600 is oced atm to 3.2 ghz stable (1.35 core v) and is with water cooling , idle with temps not higher then 33 degrees c (where i live the ambient temp is 20 degrees in winter and can hit 40s in summer) but temp wise all is well as long as its with water cooling BUT it can't seem to go above 3.2 ghz now lately I lowered the ddr3 timings to 8-8-8-22 which seemed the most stable and have seen a HUGE performance increase as I guess the timing comes too high on the mem as stock.

Anyone can maybe tell me if they had such probs with not being to overclock furthur also psu wise I have a Corsair HX 1000W ATX Modular PSU so i'm guessin its enough. Also regarding a gfx card would my system bottle neck the new cards such as Fermi that will be release by nvidia.

Thanks is advance for the help,
Neil

I'm willing to bet that it's the motherboard holding you back. Nvidia chipsets are notorious for their inability to push quads very far.

hmm the asus striker 2 extreme was quite a gd overclocker though or so I had read before i bought it 2 years ago :P ... maybe its not as good now ? what about bottleneck towards gfx cards

I honestly can't say what would bottleneck fermi as I have no idea how fast it will be. However, going off the dubious benchmarks that place the 470/480 about 10% faster than the 5850/5870 then I would say yes, there will be a slight bottleneck.

Even going from 3.4 to 3.6 on my q6600 increased framrate in many games, showing that it was bottlenecking my gtx280 slightly.

Can you post what CMOS changes you have made so far?

Give these a read through:

Overclocking # 1 - Stock to 2.7GHz

Overclocking # 2 - 2.7GHz to 3.0GHz

Overclocking # 3 - 3.0GHz to 3.2GHz

Overclocking # 4 - 3.2GHz to 3.4GHz

I'm stuck at 3.56.. Can't get it stable on 3.6. The Asus P5KC is holding me back - doesn't like the quad as two cores fail PRIME dispite my all efforts :(

AI Overclock Tuner : Manual
cpu Vcore : 1.35
Memory voltage : auto
FSB : unlinked
Cpu FSB :1423
Memory : 1600 mhz (8-8-8-22)
PCIE Bus slot 1&2 : 105
and i believe i disabled spread spectrum

so i jst tried to pump it to 3.4 using the adjustments :
Cpu FSB : 1511
Vcore set to 1.45v

it all boots up fine an what not but after runnin p95 64bit for like 10 seconds i get a BSOD with hardware failure :/

You have a water cooled setup, get it on 1.55 volts. 400 x 9 for 3.6ghz. BIOS may show 1.55 but prime load will show 1.5 maybe depending on vdroop on motherboard. I have seen people run 1.7volts (1.62 prime load) through them. Personally i wouldnt go above 1.55v prime load

I would set your memory voltage manually, as as you increase the memory bus the auto settings tends to overvolt, this may be your issue (too much voltage to the DIMMS)

i don't want to use very high voltages though as my ambient temp is high it almost reduces the water cooling to high end air cooled standards especially since June is soon with us and we get insane temps here where ambient is in the 40s

Run coretemp, what are idle temps on 3.2ghz now? Run prime95 and check load temps.

If they are < 85c in coretemp you are fine

As already said, set voltage to stock defaults for memory and PCIe bus to 100mhz

ambient temp: 21 deg C
Idle temp: 35 deg C
Load temp : not more then 71 deg C

Now maybe to lower temps atm i only use 1x 120mm rad with 1 fan ... would a push/pull help more ?

I am using a thermaltake setup my prob about the rad is that i don't have a place where to up it in coolmaster scout case :/ its pretty crammed as is and the 71 deg C is after 4 hrs of p95 ... also jst realised a MAJOR mistake from my part i never bothered with :/ the fan is sucking air FROM the case onto to rad so i guess if i reverse that it'd be cooler

Yes it would. However i have my Corsair H50 setup in push pull, all exhausting air. I dont have another exhaust though and i also have a 120mm fan strapped to the hard drive rack blowing accross the graphics card and memory

1 hour of prime will be fine, test with 1.55v, 400 x 9. If it goes an hour then itll be fine

I touched the rad and it is quite hot could it be the fan is not cooling it enough ?

What fan are you using? I imagine so, Im using 2 Noctua P12s in push pull. My radiator is never hot, just a bit warm when running prime. The H50 pump is much hotter
