Ok so I've made a few threads within the past week and this is going to be my last one before my mega RAM overclock.
THE STORY
Well basically I upgraded to 6GB of DDR3 clocked @ 1600Mhz with a 9-9-9-24 CL. I want to add my old ram also same brand OCZ but 3GB DDR3 clocked @ 1866Mhz with a 9-9-9-27 CL. Basically I've been told...
THE BEST BIT
Well I have no idea whats with DRAM frequency and reading through tutorials and other peices of information i've found on the web I'm still clueless to what I'm doing with them.
Here's my options for DRAM frequency.
As you can see with my CPU overclock I have it set to 1691Mhz but when I'm in CPUZ I see it as this...
So i'm thinking is it like this you double it so my 842Mhz CPUZ is showing me is actually 1684Mhz? Or am I completely off track.
Thanks for reading

Hey man. Overclocking X58 with six sticks of ram is relatively hard going, hope you like tweaking.
Your options for ram frequency are six times or eight times your bsck. The other aspect is timings, where lower is better. In practice on the X58 system neither frequency nor timings make much difference to performance relative to the cpu frequency, so I personally put a lot more effort into the cpu overclocking.
The approach I took was to take 4ghz stable settings, change bsck to 150. Increase qpi to 1.3V if it's currently lower than that, otherwise leave it as it is. Ram frequency to 150 times 6, timings to 9-9-9-27. Turn it off, install the new ram, then turn it back on, and it *should* be stable. Test to verify.
I'd then overclock the processor, trying to get it back to 4ghz. If you like, you can go for 150 times 8 for the ram and try this. I cant personally get 4ghz on the processor and 1600mhz ram stable but others have managed it so you may have more luck.
Only once happy with the processor speed, and stable, then try tightening the ram timings. It's a long and dull read, but you may gain something from this. I've pretty much given up on overclocking, it's at 4ghz cpu, 1200mhz cas6 until I find myself with a spare week.
