I installed Win7 Home 64 bit, last week and since they I've had problems online when downloading windows updates/games from Steam.

Now my download speeds are showing as 30-40kb/s, when I'm on a 20mb line. I've tried a few speeds tests and its coming up with speeds between 300-400kb/s for downloading over the wireless, but I'm stumped to why Win7 is unable to use this speed?

I'm fully up to date for Win7 as I thought that was the problem, had a quick search online and this eems to be a common problem with Win7, but after reading many forums I couldn't find the answer to speed up my net :(

Is it wireless which your using?

I would download and install the latest version of the manufactures Windows 7 drivers for your wireless / wired network card.

I'vr tried this already and it doesn't seem to of fixed anything. The box from Edimax even says it supports win7!

How to speed up computer

Click on Start > Run > type “msconfig" and click "OK" button. Click the tab labeled as "Startup" and uncheck any programs that you don't want automatically loading when your PC boots up. The programs that are set to run automatically take up a lot of computer resources which can cause conflicts with other software and slow down your computer. Hopefully, it will speed up your system.

It's not his speed of the computer thats the problem, that wont help at all.

I'm having the same problem with steam on my computer (just started a new thread) What ISP are you with?

What AV software are you running? If it's Kaspersky then that threw a wobbly a few days ago for me with a sig update but is now back to normal, for me anyway.
