HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

cant bluetooth files either can you?

Im using the small qwerty at the minute its not TOO bad will take a bit of getting use too.

Yeah you get used to it after a few texts. Definately turn off haptic feedback when typing a text if you haven't already done so, speeds up the whole text writing process!

Just been messing around with different ROM's, wasn't too impressed by the lag on BeHero which is based on Android 2.1, but some of the features included were nice. Gave Villian a quick try, but in the end, I've gone back to Modaco 3.2, had a few FC issues before but uninstalling ATK stopped that and has made the phone ridiculously quick.

Im on Modaco 3.1 what changed in 3.2?

I did read that the 2.1 thing will be OTA so we wont get an option?

Won't get an option for what? 2.1 based custom ROMs? They already exist and you don't have to apply the OTA update if you don't want.

Anyone know where I can get a leather pocket case like the one you get with a Blackberry 9700 or Samsung Jet? Not the cheap looking market or auction site ones.

HTC website. They only sell them through there. I checked around when I bought my phone, every shop said go to another one until I talked to the manager in Orange.

I looked at the site. Couldn't find what I'm looking for.

Another questions guys. Is there a way so that I have to actually login to view my emails within the mail app on the phone? I'm concerned that if I lose my phone or just leave it somewhere temporarily like on my desk unattended (I know!) that someone can read my emails easily. I do have a lock pattern but it's not like it's hard to guess the combo (only really use it so it doesn't unlock in my pocket) :D

You could try something like WaveSecure if it's security you're after. Remotely lock, wipe, restore, and track your phone via the internet. Been using it for a little while now and it's definately a must-have app.

Have you had to use it? or have you tried it?

Just got one of these yesterday on Orange and I'm loving it. Pleasantly surprised actually. Should I upgrade the firmware, it's saying 1.5 at the mo?

Reckon I'll get a desire in a few weeks. I'm totally converted to Android and I've only had it 24 hours! :D

Only unofficial firmware is available for Android 2.x Rumour has it that official firmware should be available in about a month, but if you upgrade to it you may be stuck without any way of rooting the phone.

Also, if yours isn't rooted then you'd have to go through that too.

If there is an official update for the device, then you can do that. I tend to update most things when i can as newer is usually better!

Rooting... its the name given to unlocking the device to accept cusom ROMS, not official ones. For example, LOTS of hero users are awaiting the 2.1 update and right now its on some newer devices (legend etc). So some clever people take that image and make it work on heros.

Depends what you want to do, i took the rooting option as i like messing around :D

Thanks for the replies. So it's like the stuff I had to do on my Diamond to update the radio, ROM etc.

That's cool, I think I'll await an official one as I'll probably sell the Hero in a couple of weeks.
