Do you need to have seen Band of Brothers to watch this?

I tried giving BoB a go twice but just couldn't get into it. Wouldn't mind having a go at this though, unless of course I would miss out as I haven't watched BoB.

Not particularly no. However, if you can't get into BoB I'd go see a doctor and check out what's wrong with you ;)

:o I agree with neo here, BoB is awesome (in the true sense of the word) and is also completely unrelated to this series.

How do you know what region I'm in..? There are many Americans on this board and you want to close the thread because people in the UK haven't seen a programme they have? This place is moronic sometimes.

Its called OcUK, British based forums so the rules make perfect sense.

Legally or via a US proxy? ;)

It works fine for me but proxies aren't illegal so that's irrelevant

No, they don't, especially for a forum as technically minded as this. The internet is global so the userbase is going to be global. Fair enough talking about illegal activity and such thats fine, but watching a programme in another country and talking about it should be fine, it's just the rules on here regarding that are antiquated. Anyways, that's all I have to say on the matter :)

Disclaimer:I'm not arguing against/for having discussion on aired shows in different countries.

I am continually amazed with how many thick people there are in regards to threads like these. Unfortunately because of biased rules and members without an iota of competence, you always in any thread about a movie/film/book/tv series have whiners who complain about spoilers.

Here's what I learned 13-15 years ago when first using the internet and forums:
If you don't want spoilers, AVOID THREADS TITLED WITH THE ITEM IN QUESTION!

If you can't remember that in your first month on any forum or anywhere on the internet, let alone your entire life, you deserve it.

Heres what I learned when I reached maturity.

If you dont want to create potential spoilers, AVOID BLABBING ABOUT THE ITEM IN QUESTION BY HAVING THE COMMON DECENCY TO REALISE THAT PEOPLE WHO HAVENT USED A PROXY OR GOT HOLD OF SAID ITEM PRIOR TO ITS RELEASE FOR THEM MIGHT NOT APPRECIATE IT.

Its what I like to call being considerate, rare though such a thing is in this "modern" day and age. If you can't be considerate to others anywhere on the internet, let alone your entire life, you deserve contempt.

:)

You avoided the issue that a lot of these dicussion are on threads with the topic of item in said question rendering everything you just said completely wasted.
If I made a thread about, for example "Stargate Universe", I would expect everything there is to know about it and up to date info to be posted. To think otherwise is delusion.

Also, to snipe at me with the maturity jab, I never said I was the one to go post spoilers, you assumed I was the kind of person to blab, you were wrong.
I was stating a 100% fact about the internet, people post spoilers, I don't care what you do or do not do on forums, it's the other people that do! :p

Yours was a statement aimed at people in general rather than a specific person. As was mine. I didnt snipe at you with the maturity jab, I never said you were the one to go post spoilers, you assumed that I was making comments about you personally, you were wrong.

I was merely stating that perhaps if people (in general, not you), were a bit more considerate about other people (in general, not you), then maybe those people (in general, not you) would think about the ramifications of what they (general, not you) are posting. I know all too well that its the other people that do and not me :)

If I made a thread about, for example "Stargate Universe", I would expect everything there is to know about it and up to date info to be posted. To think otherwise is delusion.

It might be delusional, I prefer to think that its hopeful rather than delusional to think that people would have the decency not to post spoilers or similar in threads that arent clearly marked such. Trouble is that people (general people) are overly obsessed with being "the guy" who has seen it/played it/read it/heard it before other people (general people). Kind of a little ego boost for those people (general people) who need such boosts in their life. Other people (general people) are happy to be patient and wait, not feeling the need to be amongst the first to see/play/read/hear something

tbh the whole release dates thing is daft. Quite why the UK gets it 1 month after everyone else is pretty stupid, and they really do wonder why people resort to getting it by 'other' means.

I can't say I feel guilty when I will be buying it on dvd when its out.

Well that's a a cynical way of thinking.

I get shows ahead of the UK release. It's not for the ego trip, I just figure why bother waiting when I can get it now and in better quality than it would be broadcast here... (which for a lot of shows is true, I don't even think Breaking Bad has aired in SD here)

Another plus is watching it on normal television means I would have to stick to the time the network airs it, plus then there are ad breaks to worry about.

It's just convenience, really.

Edit: It's actually somewhat annoying having seen everything before the average joe, when they are talking about the show you just think "Oh you're on season one..." whereas the US timeline might be on season three.

Well as I say, different people have different attitudes. Perhaps its a cynical viewpoint, but I'd wager its true in a lot of cases. For many its not just merely being able to see it first, its also being able to jump onto a forum and being able to let everyone know that you've already seen it before them :) Everyone is different though.

I wait for things. Why? , dont know really. Probably because its just not that important to me to have things asap. I'm happy to wait for stuff.

(Course The Pacific is slightly different though as it will almost certainly be on Anytime too, so you can actually watch it whenever you want rather than having to wait for the network aired time. Its in HD rather than SD, and its on a channel that doesnt have any ad breaks)

The problem with The Pacific is that it will only be aired on Sky Movies, which at a minimum is a £28/month subscription.

My view on watching TV shows that were downloaded is its no different than watching a recorded show. It would be no different if my old man recorded it on HBO in florida and sending it to me on a DVD!
