It would help if you specified either:
a) that you want the cheapest that will run well
b) that you want the best regardless of cost
c) that you have a budget of £xyz

Rule of thumb, cheapest is not the best, and the best isn't cheap, so people need to know what your cash limits and expectations are before they can recommend much :)

But as a starter, I've been running an Asus M4A79XTD for a couple of months, and am generally please with it. Runs my 955 BE at a lovely overclock, suffers only minimal vdroop at load, and when I'm not tweaking it, is very stable and solid.

it needs to be stable as hell
not the best regardless of cost as i dont need a few things listed below
around £100 i guess
FULL SIZE ATX
and be able to fit a 9600GT in it , or larger graphics card when i upgrade

needs loads of sata connections
not bothered about a multi graphics card setup SLI/CROSSFIRE
just wondered what the difference in the chipsets is as i have seen the
ASUS M4A785TD
ASRock M3A790GXH
ect and assume the 790 is the latest ?
i understand AM2 is ddr2 and AM3 is DDR3
any insight and help will be very much appreciated
please forgive as i have been out of this building lark for a while
cheers !

890 is the latest, but USB 3.0 isn't the mainstream standard atm and there are better 700 series mobo's right now, but if everything's gonna be dedicated then get an 890.

Hi kosmic,

just pick a few AM3 boards that catch your eye . . . the Asus M4A79XTD that eddiew pointed out is a very nice board! :)

Asus M4A79XTD Evo

£88.99 inc

Although . . . if you don't need Crossfire support then this is probably a better pick . . .

Asus M4A785TD-V Evo

£74.99 inc

All sold at @ overclockers though . . . .
