Anyone drive an Audi tt?

You would be disappointed with yourself if you owned a 225bhp turbocharged Audi Coupe? Really?

For context, what is it you currently drive?

Yeah, I don't like them, I could have spent the money on any number of better cars to me. The shallow side of me doesn't like Audi styling, and certainly not the TT. The petrolhead side says the TT isn't a particularly interesting drive for the money.

For your context, I'm not driving at uni, I live in walking distance so it's a total waste of money, so no car. Or, I'm lying and I have that lambo, you decide.

I find it quite amusing that somebody who doesn't even own a car would be dissapointed if they had an Audi TT 225.

If I didnt own a car I wouldnt dissapointed to one day find I owned a Fiesta, let alone an Audi TT Quattro. A second class ride is, of course, better than a first class walk.

Have you even driven an Audi TT? The whole forum knows I'm not the worlds biggest Audi/VW fan, but even if I have to concede the TT isn't entirely without merit.

I had a Y plate 225 Roadster and I loved it, only sold it due to my son due (now 10 months old) yes they have known niggles, coilpacks are one but thats not just TT's its most of the tuned 1.8T engines that suffer it, having said that once replaced with the upgraded parts they tend not to fail, i had 2 go on mine and they were the older ones, coolant temp sensors can go as can thermostats (the latter is a bit of a pain to do yourself but the others are simple enough and not that costly) running costs arent too bad driven sensibly but thats not what there designed for, there meant to be fun which in my opinion they are, they corner fast and grip hard, purists say they lack communication through the wheel but i found it quite satisfying, just make sure it has history and things such as timing belts have been done, id consider getting another one tbh, id get a coupe this time so at least i can get a childseat in the back while hes still small enough ;)

Rather uninspiring to drive IMO, steering feels lifeless, and they simply do not handle as well as something like that would be expected to. I'm not a particularly huge fan of the Haldex system either, although, I'm led to believe that they can be improved with a controller.

All in all, looks nice with a bit of performance when you fancy it - Yes, drivers car? No.

I had the V6 TT last year and would certainly have another again (just not the crappy paddle gearbox version though)

If you're looking for a hardcore race car then look elsewhere as the TT isn't one. If however you're looking for a car which is quick, comfortable, stylish, fairly practical and reasonable to run then you may have found your car.

Just ignore the stupid comments about being a hairdressers car and go drive one. Personally I think they're a great all round car that does most things pretty well.

My mum has owned three, all 1.8t, all soft tops, all ok.

She had a 180, and two 150's.

Its ok, not really a drivers car (the 180 was better) more of a posers car.

The 225 I have driven a few times and i liked it.

Why does ANYONE buy the 150 version of the TT :( It has no redeeming features at all. And your mum bought two of them

Can anything be done about the lifeless steering? I'm looking at one of these for my next car as well and, like most people comfortable with themselves, don't care what others think of the styling!

Not really cheaper to run at all, is it? It's the same engine, just in a lower state of tune. Only major difference is no Haldex.
So it is is cheaper to run, more economical, less tyre wear, etc.. ;)

So the 150 really is a hairdressers car then? ;)

If you're set on getting one, and looking at older ones, just make sure all the recall work has been done. The TT forums have a guide, but one thing I remember is the absence of an ESP button is a big no-no. Check all the instruments work, particularly the fuel gauge. Also check that silly system that drops the windows half an inch when you pull the door handle and winds them back up when the door is closed. If that system isnt working you'll end up smashing the window one day.

If it's your first "performance" car then you will enjoy it. If you have previous experience with AWD or RWD cars then you will be disappointed.

Oh and expect the hairdresser comments to get worse once you've bought it. If the posts on this forum upset you then the TT isnt for you (nor is an MX5 and they're great cars)

Having owned a 330ci sport and a 350z previous to my TT i was far from dissapointed, not owned a "proper" 4wd car I cant really comment on that but i still found myself smiling on numerous occasions in the TT on the twisty stuff

A Scooby of similar vintage is a cheaper an superior car in every way except for two requirements.

1) The requirement to look like an Audi TT
2) The requirement to not look like a chav.

And I'm hardly a fan of Imprezas.

The Scooby of similar vintage is a completely different car.

The Impreza has a considerably poorer quality interior, the Impreza looks like a generic Japanese saloon car which Kevin the Charver has nailed some tat to*, the Impreza has so little standard equipment that 'Power Steernig' and 'Electric Windows' features on the highlights list, the Impreza rattles like a branch of Mothercare, the Impreza's perceived quality levels of virtually negative.

None of this matters if you want an awesome hardcore Rally-rep but it's so far away from the sort of thing ANYONE who would even consider a TT would want I see no point mentioning it at all.

* Dont lie, you know its the case.
